FAQs about hotels in Tuscany

A Divine Comedy for Body and Soul

From ancient origins and Etruscan traditions, to tasty food and sandy beaches, Tuscany is the wonderful birthplace of Dante and home to the genius of Leonardo’s work. A place that makes you fall in love with culture and the art of living.

Tuscany has endless stories to reveal: little picturesque towns like San Gimignano contrast with coves and beaches in the Follonica Gulf and Argentario Mount. The scenic green hills near Siena, Elba Island and Napoleon, the opulence of Forte dei Marmi, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Arezzo, Lucca...it's packed full of things to see.

Heavenly angels lift the soul in beautiful churches decorated with skill and art, while back on earth, luxury Tuscany hotels and restaurants feed the body with indulgent servings of the best Chianina meat, the tastiest olive oil, and countless bottles of Chianti or Brunello.

The best of Florentine Renaissance art is packed into the Piazza della Signoria, Galleria degli Uffizzi and the magnificent Duomo cathedral. When looking for hotels in Tuscany, near Florence there are guest houses and B&B’s where you can still soak up the tranquil atmosphere and the beautiful landscapes captured in famous paintings of nymphs and deities.

Booking.com has some great hotel deals to enable you to enjoy and discover a rich experience of senses and ideas, and to fill your body and soul with divine Tuscany!

Pisa is so much more than just the leaning tower.

Pisa is so much more than just the leaning tower. The whole cathedral complex is wonderful. It is well worthwhile staying in Pisa to enjoy the whole experience after the crowds go home (or before they arrive). The entire place is like a film set. So many beautiful churches, old buildings and fascinating museums.

Magnificent duomo/cathedral. Del Campo was amazing.

Magnificent duomo/cathedral. Del Campo was amazing. Interesting walks around the old town. Did a winery day trip to region close by. Many choices of restaurants with great food. Also shopped in local stores so we could do some of our own cooking.

Lucca is a beautiful city with a lot to see and do.

Lucca is a beautiful city with a lot to see and do. From walking around the wall of the city to experiencing a Puccini concert, there is something for everyone. There are many good bars and restaurants and climbing to the top of the towers for a spectacular view is a must. The people are friendly and helpful and it is not as crowded and touristy as places such as Pisa. It is a place to experience life in a small Tuscan city and everything it has to offer.

We went to several walled cities on our few days in Tuscany. San G was our absolute favorite. Very clean and the food was amazing. Be prepared to walk a lot up hill, but that's the same with any Tuscany walled city.

Was not impressed with the city and expected more given all the review I read online. My disapointment could be due to the fact I visited in February, so off season. I booked two nights but decided to only stay for one and left early. Even though I booked a room in the central part of the city I did not feel safe walking the streets at night.

Arezzo was one of the most beautiful places that we have ever been. We went when the Antiques Fair was on and the Giostra del Saracino and there was such a great vibe and atmosphere there. We absolutely loved Arezzo and would definitely go back for longer.

    A very attractive town.

A very attractive town. The beaches are superb, but unless you head out of town you need to go into a beach club. There are no free access beaches in town. Some hotels have an arrangement with a beach club for free or discounted access for guests, so it is worth checking this if you intend to use the beaches. It can cost typically EUR30-40 for 2 chairs, a sunbed and an umbrella. They don't offer reduced rates until 3-4pm. That will add up after a few days. The restaurants are OK but nothing special. Most of them serve the same food, which can get boring. We ate in our hotel restaurant more than we usually would, but the quality and variety of food on offer was better than any outside restaurant we tried. Apart from the beach, shops and walking up and down the promenade, there is not much to actually do in Viarregio, so you may want to get out on some day trips. Pisa and Luca are accessible by train, although we found them both to be disappointing (especially Luca - what a dump!). We found the train service a bit hit and miss, although it is cheap. Consider hiring a car if you plan to get out of Viareggio. If you pick up and drop off at the airport, it will also be useful for airport transfers.

Pienza is a fantastic hilltop town with wonderful views over the Val D'Orcia valley. It has wonderful streets, restaurants, and historical sites to explore. My morning coffee and croissant in Piazza Magiore will stay in my memory for a long time. You have to go back there and basta :)
