A very attractive town.
A very attractive town. The beaches are superb, but unless you head out of town you need to go into a beach club. There are no free access beaches in town. Some hotels have an arrangement with a beach club for free or discounted access for guests, so it is worth checking this if you intend to use the beaches. It can cost typically EUR30-40 for 2 chairs, a sunbed and an umbrella. They don't offer reduced rates until 3-4pm. That will add up after a few days. The restaurants are OK but nothing special. Most of them serve the same food, which can get boring. We ate in our hotel restaurant more than we usually would, but the quality and variety of food on offer was better than any outside restaurant we tried. Apart from the beach, shops and walking up and down the promenade, there is not much to actually do in Viarregio, so you may want to get out on some day trips. Pisa and Luca are accessible by train, although we found them both to be disappointing (especially Luca - what a dump!). We found the train service a bit hit and miss, although it is cheap. Consider hiring a car if you plan to get out of Viareggio. If you pick up and drop off at the airport, it will also be useful for airport transfers.Guest review byFarnboUnited Kingdom - 4.0
Everything was a bit run-down and in need of restoration.
Everything was a bit run-down and in need of restoration. The beaches and restaurants were almost entirely empty of people, so there was a a lack of excitement and "buzz" about the whole area. I might have expected this a month later, but not in September.Guest review byAntony - 10.0

Beautiful little town nestled in between the mountains and sea. The locals are very friendly, it's an easy town to walk around as it's not too big. The beach is HUGE so you can have a lovely walk along it. Lots of places to eat and drink to suit a variety of budgets – highlights were Caffe Soldi, Caffe Roma, Pesce Baracca, Bocconcino. There are lots of places to visit nearby – Pietrasanta, Lucca, Pisa, Cinequeterra – or you can relax on the beach in Forte, you will not be bored!Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We have been visiting Pietrasanta for 20 years and always look forward to our stay. One of the attractions is that it is a working town with historical connections to marble production. Very popular destination for artistsGuest review byGlynUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Torre del Lago Puccini is truly a unique and special place,...
Torre del Lago Puccini is truly a unique and special place, full of atmosphere and charm. It is here that one of the greatest opera composers, Giacomo Puccini, lived and created his masterpieces. Today, you can visit the museum in his former villa, where he composed his operas – an unforgettable experience that we highly recommend to all lovers of art and music. The town itself enchants with its beauty – located by a picturesque lake, with a beautifully designed open-air theatre dedicated to opera. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the people are kind and friendly, and everywhere you go you can feel the authentic Italian spirit. On top of that, the food is absolutely delicious – especially the pizza, which is a must-try.We have already had the pleasure of attending two breathtaking opera performances here, and we are already planning our third visit. Torre del Lago Puccini is a place that draws you back again and again – we sincerely recommend it to everyone who loves opera, Italian hospitality, and the beauty of this country.Guest review byMirosławUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Viarreggio is a very friendly and family type of town with some great beaches, pleasant pedestrianised streets, restaurants and a lovely park in the centre. Being very flat it is easy for people to get around town and there are many on bikes. Our favourite places to eat were MaMe Restaurant, Osteria l'Imbarco and Ristorante Pizzeria EdenGuest review byKENNETHUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Quite touristy in high season. It must be nice to go there just before or after it. Different entertainments are provided. Problems with parking in high seasons and controls by the city guards which can lead to penalties.Guest review byPrzemysławPoland - 8.0
