- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 344 reviewsThe room was cozy and comfortable! Loved the traditional rooms! The staff was very polite and friendly! Also helped us a lot when we had questions and showed us everything and what to wear etc. We just was unsure about the rules for tattoos bc we both had some (more anime/manga and animal tattoos) and we messaged the hotel before and they said to cover them or just use the private ones which we also reserved in advance (they was awesome!). But as we arrived there, the receptionist told us just some special Japanese tattoos are not allowed (forget the correct name for it but we guess the common yakuza ones). So we were able to use all public Onsens too what was really awesome! Bc we thought we just can use the private ones! It was also possible to order a veggie Menu!Guest review byMinaGermany
- From US$431.42 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 208 reviewsIt was so beautiful! It is a bit remote, but thats exactly what we liked about it! It lies in a nice valley, that in december was a bit snowy. Ofcourse, the very traditional building was so sophisticated and beautiful, but even though it felt such high end (and it is!), we felt comfortable there. It was easy to relax, the Onsen are amazing and beautiful. Very kind staff as well, they spoke english. The food was exceptional as well. One of us was vegetarian, we let them know beforehand and it was no problem. Would recommend at least 2 night stays. The price for the value you get is exceptional.Guest review bySuzanneSwitzerland
- From US$401.66 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 195 reviewsThis was our third visit to Japan, and we always wanted to try a traditional ryokan. Oyado Tamaki surpassed our expectations ! The level of attention to detail was amazing. Everything was impeccable. The tatami beds were super comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were an experience on its own, definitely a feast for the senses (they catered to our meatless request, everything was delicious). The staff was friendly and attentive and made us feel royal (domo arigato gozaimashita Okami san, domo arigato Kobayashi!)Guest review byMarioCanada

Nice location to visit for max two days, touristic but not too over-crowded and people in general very friendly. Some of the Onsen are amazing - if you like it - and the ski resort (if open since top part closes fast with some wind and snow) is small and somewhat outdated, but still nice for 1-2 days. Some restaurants offer good value for money, but reserve on time and be prepared to have diner around 18/18:30 latest since everything closes early.Guest review byJurrienThailand - 10.0

Nakanojo is an amazing area in Shima, giving access to several wonderul onsen and hiking opportunities. A quiet spot that is perfect to relax and enjoy the spa baths. There is a small connivence store for basic goods and several small cafe to grab coffee or other light meals. It is easily walkable for those who like to hike in scenic mountain towns.Guest review byMarkUnited States - 10.0
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains.
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains. The toursit part of town centres around the hot spring and the way it is lit these days makes it particularly beautiful at night. There are temples and parks to visit and some quaint little shops. You can stand and watch soba noodles being made by hand and then enjoy them for a very reasonable price. Walk up the hill and around the none touristy parts of town. there are some great family run restaurants serving delicous food at prices the locals pay. Apart from the soba place which is in the toursity part of twon, restaurants in that area are pretty expensive. It gets cold, quite cold, down to -5c in January during my stay. Be aware that getting in and out of the town is via limited timetabled train and bus. Unless you are there for the skiing, get in early in the morning, stay 1 night and get out the next afternoon.Guest review byjonathanAustralia - 10.0

While waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up in Jomo Kogen, we got suggestion from the lady officer in Information Center to visit Tsukiyono garden. We came in mid April 2025 and there are still a lot of sakura. whereever you shoot your camera, the result of the photo is amazing. there is also a small grocery that serve udon/ramen as well. I bought a watermelon in that grocery and the lady in Udon stall lend me her knife to cut it. the watermelon is very small, compared to what I used to eat in Indonesia, but this minakami watermelon is very juicy and its flesh is so thick yet tender.Guest review byLilyIndonesia - 10.0

You can't miss the smell, but the view and the atmosphere are totally worth it!! Highly recommended to visit There are free footbaths around the town, just don't forget to bring your own towel. Plenty of places to stop for food, be it snacks or a meal.Guest review byNicAustralia - 10.0
Amazing picturesque location!
Amazing picturesque location! Mineral water was natural and wonderful. Be prepared to sleep on a futon on the floor, but other than that very comfortable. People are very nice anyways in Japan, but the staff here was particularly helpful and accommodating. Free shuttle bus from Jomo-Kogen was a real plus which enabled us to get there from Tokyo via Shinkansen. Wish we could have stayed longer!Guest review byIraUnited States
