- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Excellent - What previous guests thought, 353 reviewsThis is the best place I have ever stayed in OITA. The house is very nice and very cozy. It is very warm and the place is very beautiful! Even my mum and dad who do not normally say anything was very vocal how much they love the place. The owners were very helpful and very warm people too. Just a note that you cannot go here without a car because it is in the middle of the forest. But renting a car and going here was the best decision we have made for our whole Fukuoka trip!Guest review byArfel ValdezHong Kong

Went at night and had the whole pool to ourselves. Several different jet pools and a massive sauna with a tv inside! -Beautiful views of the national park outside our window -Huge room with western style beds and a lovely area with tatami matsGuest review byDanielUnited States

I came for the One Piece statues but I honestly loved the entire vibe of Kumamoto. The transit system was easier to navigate than I expected, and locals were very nice in offering to take pictures of us at the statues! I was also really impressed with the Kumamoto revival project details and how they specifically placed the crew members in places that needed aid but were relevant to the character. As we traveled to each statue, I was amazed at how gorgeous Kumamoto was, like a scene out of a Studio Ghibli movie. It was magical and I wished I had planned to stay longer since I couldn't see all the statues.Guest review byRaveendraraj - 10

Loved Mt Aso and area. It is gorgeous and the visit to the crater was scary but exciting. We enjoyed driving around the beautiful mountains and loved the scenery. The highlight of our trip to Kyushu so farGuest review byJaninaAustralia - 10

Perfect place for a base especially if you’re planning on driving around the area (Takachiho, Mt Aso, Yufuin, Beppu and the scenic viewing points) as it is much nearer than Fukuoka or Kumamoto to all of them. The drives are also very beautiful.Guest review byAmol DesaiSingapore - 10

The owners were exceptionally lovely, I arrived when it was a bit dark, but she quickly responded to my message about my arrival and helped me get to the property. Also their generosity and kindness were amazing despite me being a little lost in my Japanese understanding. Stay was comfortable with a great view of the mountains greeting you as you woke up. I would definitely recommend staying here, probably arriving a little before the sun sets as the small streets can be a little confusing if you take the wrong route.Guest review byAndrewAustralia - 10
Amakusa is an amazing place with amazingly friendly locals.
Amakusa is an amazing place with amazingly friendly locals. Never crowded with tourists, peaceful, and relaxing. Lots to do and see as this island has beautiful mountains and beaches. The dolphin watch is an experience like no other dolphin encounter. The drive through the mountain roads offers spectacular views of peeks covered in lush forests. Amakusa is a must for anyone visiting Japan!Guest review byDanielUnited States - 10

Yuhoen Fruit Farm to enjoy fruit picking and unlimited serving of fruits picked within an hour. There were Hosui pears, Kyoho and Fuji Minori grapes. Great experience! Kumamoto castle is a must visit as well as to savour horse sashimi.Guest review byEricSingapore - 10

The visit to Mount Aso and walking there is a great experience and the bus from Aso railway station up to the volcano makes the visit easy. A bit too many people at the crater but fortunately less on th longer hike.Guest review byVladimírCzech Republic - 8.0

Getting around is easiest with a car, but note that it's a small mountain town so roads can be narrow--a smaller rental car would be a good choice for visiting tourists. There's not a lot of convenience shops but local produce is glorious and cheap. You can do many hiking/walking daytrips based here into the Kuju mountains and Aso area. We visited in spring, so roads were clear but I'm not sure how conditions would be in winter.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Kumamoto city - not much to see.
Kumamoto city - not much to see. Aso area - nicer - with views, countryside and waterfalls. Accessible only by car so suggest self drive. Treat places like US where you need to drive everywhere to get stuffs. I don't put photos because need to convert to jpg.Guest review byArundataTaiwan - 10
Great views. Great trip.
Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.Guest review byAnonymousUnited States
