A smaller ryokan run by an older grandma. Food was delicious and she was so sweet! The location is good and there is parking. It was nice that it was possible to use the ofuro/shower as a couple - so tattoos wasn't a problem.

The BBQ dinner and the breakfast was superb. The sea view just outside the tent is astonishing, to go with the eastward direction you can see the sunrise every morning if the weather is good. The staff is friendly and helpful, with fluent English. The onsen available nearby was also fantastic.

tldr: perfect stay, we'd stay there again! Nice staff, good food, amazing Onsen, good value for money. Long version: Well kept, well maintained and clean hotel. We stayed in a tatami-style room, which was very roomy for 2 people. Our room on 3rd floor was facing the road, with a nice view of the mountains. Despite being located next to a road, it's no problem as there is little traffic during the day and almost none at night. There is an outdoor Onsen with a view of either the mountains during the day or the stars at night. It is so relaxing to enjoy the stars in the onsen after a day of hiking! For people arriving by car, there's plenty of parking spaces right in front of the Hotel. For people arriving by bus, the bus stop is right in front of the Hotel. Very convenient. The staff is amazing! They really, really made us feel welcome and put in a lot of effort to make our stay great. Big "Thank You" to the staff!! The food (breakfast and dinner) was great as well. It's a variety of local and general Japanese food, served on traditional low tables (that allow western type of sitting with a hole in the floor below the table). The Hotel is a bit more expensive than what we usually book and we were hesitant when we booked it, but after staying we think everything considered (food, onsen, staff) it's good value for money and we'd stay there again. Iya Valley: We stayed for 3 nights, which means two full days. We didn't have a car so we relied on the public bus, which means there's basically one bus to Mount Tsuragi in the morning and one bus back in the afternoon. We went hiking on Mount Tsuragi & sight-seeing in Ochiai village on one day, to Nogoro (Scarecrow) village & double vine bridges the other day. By car, it can be done on a single day, by bus you need 2 days due to the timetable. Arrival & departure day can be used for the vine bridge close to the Hotel, visiting Oboke and the temple in Kotohira.

Beautiful hotel that makes you feel like you are transported back in time. Very comfortable room, lots of space, and very good breakfast with dining room looking out to a beautiful garden. The onsen is beautiful with both an outdoor onsen and a sauna and cold pool. Imabari is a very cute town with a nice castle and several very cute cafes, we enjoyed exploring it for a day after completing the Shimanami Kaido and this hotel is in a very convenient location—we were able to walk to everywhere we wanted to go.

Hotel is close to the theme park as it is the only hotel associated with the theme park. BUT the hotel and theme park is quite far from the train station. There is a free bus shuttle but runs infrequently. We ended up taking taxis to the facility . The hotel is huge and it had lots of things that could accommodate the large crowd: Pool and game rooms for children, large onsen baths, large self serve restaurant, and a big store for shopping.

It combines the charm of a traditional ryokan with the amenities of a modern, more western style hotel. Excellent food and friendly, helpful staff, always ready to meet your needs. Add to that an outdoor, rooftop onsen and you have everything you need. Next door to the famous Dogo Onsen, a nice shopping arcade and bus and tram spots and its location can’t be beat.

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Takamatsu is a regional town on Shikoku Island in Japan.

Takamatsu is a regional town on Shikoku Island in Japan. It is quite relaxed and has everything that you may look for in big cities. Shikoku Island is one of the main 4 Islands of Japan. It is good to reach by train, bus and even by airplane. It has an old history and boasts of many traditional handicrafts, regional specialties (such as udon noodles), etc. Always worth a visit - even if it is in the rainy season.
