- From $201.95 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 321 reviewsWe had an incredible stay—everything from start to finish was thoughtful and seamless. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle from the station, which made our arrival stress-free. Upon check-in, we were welcomed with a cold drink and a traditional Japanese sweet, along with salt candies thoughtfully placed on the table—perfect for the summer heat. The check-in process was the best we've ever experienced: we sat comfortably in the lounge, which offers a stunning view, while a staff member kindly walked us through all the information in detail. Our room was spacious and beautifully designed, complete with a private bathroom and a small terrace with real green grass overlooking Tatadohama Beach. It was a truly peaceful and scenic space to unwind. Dinner and breakfast were both exquisite. The staff provided English explanations for each course, making the experience even more enjoyable and accessible. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for exceptional hospitality, comfort, and a memorable seaside escape.Guest review bySvetlanaJapan
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 91 reviewsEverything was exceptional. The traditional building was beautifully maintained and every corner was photo worthy. The staff were friendly and took very good care of us. Our room was beautiful and spacious, we had a wooden tub in our bathroom to soak in and amazing garden views from the windows. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Onsens were wonderful and each one had its own charm and feel. The place is a short walk from the bus stop and next to the bridges and bamboo grove, allowing easy access in the evening. The stay at this ryokan was definitely a highlight of our Japan trip and we’d love to stay here again.Guest review byHsuanNew Zealand

- From $439.04 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 811 reviewsResort is very well-maintained and clean, albeit a little old. There is shuttle bus service between Takayama station and the resort. The guest onsen at level 5 and 7 is wonderful after a long day outside. It comes with indoor and outdoor pools. It was snowing when we were at the outdoor pool, it was an amazing experience. Housekeeping provides turn-down service every evening to prepare the futons for sleeping. We truly enjoyed our stay here.Guest review byWinterfriendSingapore
- From $183.13 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very Good - What previous guests thought, 543 reviewsThe room was very clean, the beds are super comfy and they have prepared 3 different kinds of pillows ( 1 hard pillow, 1 feather soft pillow and 1 throw pillow) for each bed which made my sleep very comfortable and relaxing since I am used to sleep using 2 pillows. The view from our room was excellent.Guest review byJoylyn ilaosJapan

We enjoyed their three different onsens very much, particularly, the outdoor onsen on the top of the hills. It's just fantastic!Guest review byLuopingUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 6.9Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 132 reviewsThe room was very clean and there was a nice balcony overlooking the river. For the full season the buffet dinner includes all you can eat crab legs and claws, which is always amazing even though they do not provide melted butter as you would expect in per se America.Guest review byColeJapan

Takayama is a beautiful location with a great mix of traditional and modern. Favourite places were Hida Folk Village and the Showa museum, but the whole place is spectacular, as is the journey to and from.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Shizuoka is a hidden gem.
Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.Guest review byMarkAustralia - 8.0
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible optionGuest review byBrigidAustralia - 8.0
Hamamatsu is a small industrial city located about halfway...
Hamamatsu is a small industrial city located about halfway between Kyoto and Tokyo. It has a number of industrial tourism sites - Suzuki Plaza, esp., and music-related sites - Yamaha Innovation Road and the Musical Instrument Museum. There are a number of Jazz- and Classical-music festivals in the fall, and that is a good time to visit. Lake Hamana is beautiful, and there are a number of interesting temples, shrines, and historical sites like the small but beautiful Hamamatsu Castle. Mostly ignored by Western tourists, but easy to get around, it's charm is in one's ability to visit Japan as it is for those who live there.Guest review byJerome - 8.0
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen.
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen. The fare is ¥5900 one way and travel time is nearly an hour. I stayed at Toyoko Inn which is 150 meters from the Shin Fuji station. There are lots of car rentals in the area but I was not able to get one as they only accept advance booking from their website. It took me 2 hours getting to and from the foot of Mt. Fuji, by bus and a 15 minute walk in the village to reach my destinations. Roads are quite narrow but they are common in Japan. Like most countryside places in Japan, Fuji is relatively clean, rich in nature, and lots of places to explore. My advice if you want to visit Fuji: 1. Travel by Shinkansen going to and from Fuji. 2. Rent a car so you can visit most of the attractions in and around Mt. Fuji. 3. Spend at leat 3-4 days in the area. 4. Bring cash with you always as most establishments are cash based. 5. Download Papago app on your phone so you can translate Japanese images, signs, etc if you're having difficulty understanding the language. That's it and enjoy your trip to Mt. Fuji.Guest review byMauro Jr - 10.0
One of Japan's six ancient kiln towns.
One of Japan's six ancient kiln towns. If you are into ceramics it's a brilliant place to visit. If you're not, it's a lovely, relaxed town with nice walks and good places to eat. Very close to Nagoya airport. There is a free shuttle bus into Tokoname or use the station. Home of the lucky waving cat - Maneki Neko!Guest review byCerysUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Everything about Gotemba is excellent and magical.
Everything about Gotemba is excellent and magical. Gotemba is one of the most significant epicenters for adventure and sightseeing in all of Japan. It is of course an exceptional gateway to hiking and adventuring on Mount Fuji using the Gotemba, Subashiri and Fujinomiya 5th Station traiheads. Hakone-Yumoto onsens/spas and Lake Ashi are also right in the area. Free shuttle buses offer a 20 minute ride straight to the Famous Gotemba Outlets if shopping for 15 hours is what you are in the mood for. Don't forget Odawara Castle just down the way or Fuji-Q and the Fuji Speedway just up the way, to name a few. Gotemba ROCKS! Mount Fuji and the Osunabashiri descending trail are really the #1 world class attraction among many. Furthermore, all the special local people who support all the vast Gotemba opportunities are the best and truly loved.Guest review byBrettUnited States - 10.0

We loved our trip here. Little did I know, I seem to enjoy travelling in a pretty laid-back city and Ise was just perfect for that. If you're craving for a small city experience, out from the other international travelers, I'd recommend Ise for sure.Guest review byRizki Dwi KelimutuIndonesia - 8.0

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.Guest review byFrangapaniAustralia
