- From US$147.15 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 274 reviewsThe location and standard of amenity were superb. The hotel was easily accessible by public transport, locally or to / from the airport. The hot tubs on the top floors are a delight! I had a spacious Japanese style room overlooking the beach and out to sea, perfect for my last night in Japan. Women have a choice of yukata and there are plenty of drinks available in hotel lounge, though as the season slows, they maybe need.more attention to maintain supply. The evening buffet was diverse, plentiful, delicious and very welcome since there was nowhere locally for a snack or lunch. I had great help from a member of staff who spoke excellent English and found and organised a very straightforward (but not obvious) solution for getting me to the airport. Other staff either didn't know about it or couldn't explain and my Japanese wasn't nearly good enough to work it out.Guest review byMaryUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 441 reviewsIf you want a traditional Ryokan, and ran by a beautiful family and staff. The staff were just so helpful and welcoming. We wanted traditional when we picked this Ryokan, and it didn’t disappoint. From the Japanese dinner which was so plentiful and everything just tasted so good. I cannot say enough about staying in the Ivy Valley. There is an indoor and outdoor guest shared onsen with all facilities and then you have a modern bathroom with a huge bathtub in your room. The vine bridge is a stones throw away.Guest review byChrisAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 161 reviewsThis is a serious once in a lifetime experience. The outside bath is amazing. The indoor bath is also amazing. We had the room with the private bath, and the view was phenomenal. Staff were also super lovely and helpful. I don't know if this always the case, definitely ask first, but they let my partner, who has a mid-sized tattoo, use the public bath. That was really appreciated.Guest review byAlexanderAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 58 reviewsFabulous hotel in the countryside by a river. There's nothing much around it, but everything you need is inside - restaurant, shop, vending machines, and of course, the onsen. Our room was large, with a view over the river. The restaurant had many options for dinner and was inexpensive, and the food was delicious. The included breakfast was also great.Guest review byRalphAustralia

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.Guest review byGiorgio_EItaly - 10.0

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.Guest review byFulford-Smith - 10.0

Anan itself isn't a sightseeing spectacle - a quiet little town with all the normal amenities and such. However, its proximity to multiple important temples on the Shikoku 88 can't be overstated. You're near Temple 18-23, accessible through some combination of bus, train and walking, and that's super convenient. Even if you're not doing the whole pilgrimage, visiting Tairyuji on top of the mountain is super interesting, Yakuoji is beautiful and in one of many small seaside towns, and the whole experience can be a wonderful 3-4 day trip full of unique sights!Guest review byJ-MCanada - 10.0

Traditional Japanese Futon, Tatami Mat room. Clean and tidy facilities, homely lounge area, and private dining room, a wonderful Japanese breakfast was served in the morning by the friendly, personable, and well travelled host. Caters to Pilgrim walk enthusiasts, Cyclists, and anyone else seeking a traditional experience. Would love to stay in this quiet seaside town again.Guest review byRahnNew Zealand - 10.0

Tokushima Prefecture is pretty much off the beaten track for foreign visitors to Japan. If you are hoping to have a real Japanese experience, and avoid the crowds, Tokushima, along with other 'rural' regions of Japan are the perfect places to visit.Guest review byAngusJapan - 10.0

Great area and plenty to see, a car is a must to get around so you can get to all the places out of the way. It was winter so we were restricted on walks and things to visit. Love to go back in the Spring or the Fall to experience a whole new worldGuest review byKarenAustralia - 10.0

Such a hlpful place to start our time in Shikoku and the information centre was beyond brilliant - even above the standard of the other cities which have also proven to be so helpful. Great place to start our Shikou 88 pilgrimage and we rather regretted cutting our nights from 5 to 3 so that we could also visit Naoshima.Guest review byJamesAustralia - 8.0
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an...
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an understatement. The vine bridges, the scarecrow village and gorges are pretty much all you'll hear about and for good reason. They're the main attraction and the reason people go. It's all about the nature and a handful of curiosities like the Yokai museum. While not the tourist powerhouse of big cities like Kyoto, it does kind of live off of its "in the know" tourists. A new generation of younger entrepreneurs are trying to revitalize the area and transform it into something more in line with their modern sensibilities. Travel is not easy and requires a lot of planning and preparation. Buses are extremely rare and trains as well. Bad weather can throw a wrench into your plans and mess up everything. Renting a car almost a must in order to visit the more far away spots, but a strong and experienced cyclists could probably do it - maybe. Those hills and mountains aren't always easy! And those trucks get a bit scary. I stayed in Ikeda-cho, one of the bigger areas of Miyoshi city but still a bit of a one horse town. But one thing is has going for it is that you can follow the Yoshino river for an 80km ride into Tokushima city. On a nice day, it's one of the best bike rides you could do.Guest review bySylvainJapan
