Hotel is very clean, the cleanest hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Dinner was great, chef Shalom prepared very tasteful fish and prawns. They also prepared special meal for our daughter, everything was delicious. Shalom and Shashi were very nice and helpful. They provide us late check out. We felt there like at home. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The room and bathroom were spacious, well designed and impeccably clean -- we really appreciated the attention to details and the additional functionality offered by the daybed, the small desk, the armchairs as we were travelling with our tween and also had to do some work while on vacation. The pool was lovely - it is a good size and none of us had red eyes from chlorination. The beach the property opens onto is gloriously clean and we had it entirely to ourselves most of the time. The cafe served up delicious food but their menu offers only a few Sri Lankan dishes. At our request, the kitchen was only too happy to whip up Sri Lankan meals -- prawn and fish curries, traditional coconut sambol, dhals, gotukala salad, okra salad, ridge gourd in coconut milk, star bean stir fry, eggplant gojju, Sri Lankan pancakes with ice cream, watalapam .... these were by far the best meals we enjoyed during the entirety of our holiday and we would heartily recommend visitors to Lankavatara sample the Sri Lankan meals. The staff are very well informed and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay a memorable one -- from organising tuktuks, catamaran rides in the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and turtle watching or airport transfers.

Great value for money. Appreciate the hospitality. I wish nothing but the best for the Art Yala team. There was a good breakfast and a lot of restaurants close by for convenience. Definitely head to the ancient temples close by. It's right next to the lake so it was very relaxing for my family.

An exceptional family stay, in December 2024, this was a newly built facility. The family run hotel had a homely atmosphere, everyone was super friendly and polite. The owner has put a lot of thought into the layout and details of the whole hotel. The room are expansive, very comfortable and immaculately clean. The private balconies offer great views over the picturesque rice fields and beyond to the lake. The gardens are teaming with birds. The pool is well maintained, and very welcome after a long journey. The food was super fresh and very tasty, home cooked in a very clean open air kitchen. The owner arranged our Yala safari. We had a very enjoyable stay, in hide sight we should have stayed longer.

Incredible host who took os out on a really nice evening tour! He arranged the safari for us the next day where we saw a leopard and elephant! He helped us get transportation to Mirissa as well the next day for a really good price! The view was beautiful and food was good. The location was a bit remote but really nice if you’re doing a safari. Can’t recommend enough:)

I feel very lucky to stay at Nalin’s place. I highly recommend it! It was the best place during my trip. The room was very clean, the mattress was comfortable. We got 5 star service here. Nalin was very kind and nice, prepared everything I asked for, hot water for shower, fruit and blanket. He also brought us to see sunrise, visit 4 beautiful lakes and local temples, and introduced birds. He has very rich bird knowledge. We even saw swimming crocodile in a lake! His wife cooks so well! We had super delicious homemade dinner. I really love it! Nalin also helped us book a safari, and we saw leopard, bear, and many other animals.

The location being right on the beach was the highlight of this spot for us, being able to walk along the beach first thing in the morning and watch sunrise and sunset each day. Food was incredible too. And the staff were incredibely friendly and warm.

I realized that this hotel will be great after I received very pleasant and warm messages in confirmation of my booking, with advice on accommodation, contact numbers of managers, and some recommendations . Hotel just perfect , in everything: territory, swimming pool , lobby , the style and design . The room is so lite and cozy, many cute nice details in interior - everything in hotel , every part made with love and good taste. The beach is wonderful, sun beds and tables for lunch are comfortable located. Food is tasty , breakfast delicious and you can choose different variants of it. On territory of hotel have nice special place for massage, you can choose and Oder - massage very good one. I want also to highlight work of all staff in hotel , they really doing them job very good . Especially Mr. Thushara, he was a very attentive, polite , mannerle, he immediately responded to all my requests and sometimes even anticipated them) , I appreciate for care , thanks a lot it makes my holiday really relax full and amazing. I want to say thanks and big respect to owner of this hotel - she created really unique place. Paradise - it is exactly how can say about this place in one word. Keep going like this guys. Take care people who is working there - because team is really important . I am highly recommend this place . We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.
