If you want to spend the first night or last night close to Windhoek, this is a great option. I would suggest to stay at least two nights to have time to participate in the various wildlife activities they offer on the premises. Corne met us with welcome drinks at the reception and gave us all the necessary information we needed for our stay. He and the rest of the staff have been very helpful and responsive. If you read my review you probably have read as well some other recent reviews, as I did and I almost cancelled my stay here. I'm so glad I didn't, because we had a wonderful stay, one night was just too short. The recent very negative reviews definitely don't do justice to this great place that has been created with a much deeper reason than just being a lodge. Don't expect a luxury lodge at the top end, but that is not what you are paying anyway. The cost is totally justified for what you get. We stayed in chalet number one, very convenient next to the main building with the restaurant, reception and common reading area. Our room was super clean and nothing was missing, everything well stocked, towels, coffee, tea and minibar. There are definitely no rats in the room, my guess is that some guests might have mistaken the rock hyrax for rats. It could happen if you leave the sliding windows to the deck open that some curious animals enter your room, the instructions to always close the doors is clearly marked, even baboons could enter and they could really mess around. But aren't the animals one of the reason why we come to visit Namibia? Just don't let them enter your room. We had a wonderful sunset horse ride which Cindy, the caretaker of the horses. She is very calm and did a wonderful job and her colleague prepared us a sundowner for our last sunset in Namibia out in the wilderness, amazing! We were pleasantly surprised and felt it had so much more to offer than a pure "sleepover" stay. The views from the chalets are amazing and you can not tell that this place is literally 5 minutes outside of Windhoek. The breakfast and dinners were excellent and they also have a nice pool / bar for a great sundowner / evening experience. The rooms were excellent as well, spacious , large beds and fitted with AC with a great view. Staff was super friendly and attentive. My room was comfortable with a super large and comfy bed. I slept like a dream with no noise, just nature at my door. The food was excellent, although I was not that into the game meaty dishes served. Just my personal preference. The game drive was so informative, but I wish I could have been on more than one occasion. The shuttle service was well appreciated. I arrived very early and was given a room immediately which was very much appreciated. Breakfast was very good and the on site restaurant was excellent for dinner. We stayed in this location mainly to visit Sossusvlei which is further south. Solitaire itself is a charming but tiny settlement - only a few buildings and a petrol station, however it has an amazing cafe serving "the world's best apple pie" and it was! SOlitair mountain lodge is a beautiful lodge with an incredible setting. they have a beautiful pool and watering hole close by which brings animals in such as zebra and Gemsbok/Oryx. The rooms were comfortable and large and the space is neat and well maintained. friendly staff made it extra easy to check in. InDrive in Windhoek makes getting round very easy. However the location markers seem tricky - either drivers can't find you or the time indicated in the App is not correct. Ordering food ahead and going to collect at restaurants made evenings after work very easy. The Col'cacchio restaurant at Grove Mall had a fabulous view of the setting sun over drinks or dinner.
