It's painful recent history has been carefully remembered without being oppressive to tourists. The Hotel Flor de Sarta is nicely located on the edge of the city centre so guests can spend time in the bustling city as well as relax within the hotel area. There is a small pool which is perfect for a quick dip to cool down and there is a quiet courtyard where you can sit and read under cover during the heat of the day. Breakfast is typically Nicaraguan, which means it is simple but excellent. If you prefer something different there are plenty of cafes nearby. Leon is a pretty and interesting city.
Leon is a pretty and interesting city. We enjoyed a walking tour and the art museum was absolutely fantastic. We also really enjoyed doing a few trips from here - to the beach/mangroves at Las Penatas, and a volcano hike. Las Penitas is only 2 hours from Managua and 20 mins from lovely Leon. It’s totally relaxing, with some great places to eat for every budget, surf schools and mangroves to explore. The fishermen bringing their boats in up the river are a great sight to see at high tide.
