We didn’t go into the town of Haast, but were just outside, on the road to Jackson Bay. After the crowds and bustle of other towns, Haast Beach was a welcome change. The perfect location for a quiet, peaceful stay right in the middle of the Nikau Forest!. The beds were comfy and there was everything you needed in the kitchen. We stayed in Ruru Lodge, plenty of room for me and my friend in our bedroom. A good size lodge which is a little tired, the bathrooms need an upgrade. Really good value for money. Reefton is a lovely town.
Reefton is a lovely town. The river hydro walk is enjoyable as to the local pubs. Dawsons provides a good meal. The new Pizza parlour Bassano makes great pizza, though I thought the wine was overpriced. Accomodation were I have stayed, both great places. Different price points but neither can be faulted. Suzanne the owner was so lovely and bent over backwards to help us. We had a lot of washg and she was happy for us to use her facilities. She recommended to us a lovely place to have dinner right by beach, but unfortunately was closed that night so went into town. The unit we stayed in was lovely, very tasteful, very comfortable with everything we needed. We wd totally recommend this place to others, and if we are ever in Westport again wd want to stay there.
