Białystok is a special place for us because of our family...
Białystok is a special place for us because of our family there. However, it is an excellent place in Poland to visit for a relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of better known tourist cities. It is a safe, walkable town with attractive venues such as the Branicki Palace and gardens. You can enjoy Polish puppet theater, live dramatic theater, and music in both outdoor and indoor settings such as the Podlaskie Opera. If you enjoy museums, you won't be disappointed. There are several museums in which you can learn of the history of the region, remember the deportations and sacrifices made under Soviet Union control, or learn about Ludwik Zamenhof and his development of the Esperanto international language. Beautiful nature, great lakeside views. Slightly underdeveloped, with little information available hence one has to explore and discover. Perfect for watersports, with plenty of options available (but you have to explore yourself ...). Lomza is a beautiful city!
Lomza is a beautiful city! A small gem that is likely underrated. I went with my family to find our roots and was so surprised by the beauty of the area! We were lucky to receive fantastic help at tourist information in town square and they had an array of books in several languages for free. St. Michael’s church and the museum across the street are a must see. The museum especially were so generous in giving us a guide because my mom has mobility issues. They have a wonderful collection of lamps and artifacts from the area. The woman at tourist information also connected us with a local historian who is going to help us find our ancestors. Wonderful natural area, fascinating walks all around. We met wild bisons on one walk! The town itself has most of the things a traveller requires and is a delight with its varied Polish styles of building and much charm and plenty to look at. We came by train to Hajnowka and then bus to Bialo; you have to time this carefully as the buses are infrequent. Hajnówka is a peaceful town right next to the Białowieża Forest, one of Europe’s last primeval woodlands. It’s a great spot for nature lovers, with easy access to forest trails and chances to spot bison. The town also has a unique mix of cultures, best seen in its striking Orthodox church and local Belarusian influences. Perfect for a quiet getaway close to nature and for testing Podlasie cuisine. Nice city in general, a lot of activities to be found, two days in city just were not enough. There are a lot of good places to eat and prices are more than reasonable. Personally I would recommend visiting "Akcent Zoo", which is free of charge and The Branicki Palace. Parking in City center is cheap and free on weekends, places in general are not far away from each other so walking within a city is a good option. We didn't go beyond the accomodation complex but that had several activities available anyway. You could purchase a fire pit evening, go fishing, go swimming in the lake and I'm sure there would be more available if you wanted. Hotel is located by a lake in a quiet wooded area. The interior of the hotel is really beautiful. Room and all the public spaces were very clean. Room was spacious and well equipped with a kettle and coffee maker etc. Pool area was nice and cozy. Staff was very friendly.
