- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 149 reviewsSao was such a wonderful hostess!! So kind and helpful. The breakfast served here was fantastic, the room perfect for our needs and the balcony so beautiful!! Lajes was an excellent location for us, we loved the pastry shop and restaurant just up the street. Quiet but neighborly, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else on the island! Highly recommend renting a car and taking advantage of the ocean swimming holes! Sao Roque had the best one. And the bar Cella Bar near the capital has a gorgeous view!Guest review byJessicaUnited States
- From $168.02 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 823 reviewsThe staff was amazing and the wonderful character of the place! Beautiful doesn’t really capture how amazing it was! We had everything we needed and the customer service was above and beyond. We also enjoyed our meals we ate on site. Wish we had eaten there more than one dinner! Beds were comfortable and we had plenty of room to stretch out in the house. We did not attempt to cook in the house but were easily able to prepare picnic lunches and snacks in it.Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom
- From $427.70 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 1,138 reviewsThis place is quite pleasant, with a charming old-fashioned design. The breakfast is good, though there's a bit of excess service – they bring a kettle of coffee, tea, and juice. It's not really a drawback, more of a minor point to note. The 24-hour access to a thermal pool is a major advantage. The highlight is the incredibly vast park surrounding the property. Overall, it's a delightful spot with a unique charm that extends beyond the accommodations.Guest review bySergeiEstonia

Lovely place to explore , the botanical garden Borges is free and really nice to see . Lovely bars and restaurants scattered all over . Plenty to see and do here for a few days . We got a taxi to the lava caves in town ( grutas do carvão ) but we walked back as it’s only a 15/20 min walk . The 1 hour Cave tour is worth doing and cost €10 .Guest review byPaulPortugal - 8.0
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina.
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina. Not easy to drive through and park, but excellent for walking. Not many souvenir shops, and lots of cheap Chinese fake products but comparing to other towns in Azores this one is quite big. Bars, restaurants and bistros are there but these are not the best, they are sufficient though. The natural reserve on peninsula with citadel and military base is extraordinary. Great view and experience, nice for picnic or hiking!Guest review byJarek__PLPoland - 10.0

Horta is a fabulous town, friendly people, nice restaurants and pedarias and shops in and around the Main Street Our favorite place to eat was a fab resteraunt overlooking the ocean Praia do a Almoxarife. Lovely harbor with interesting paintings from passing sailors. Porto Pim Beach close by. Probably best to get a hire car to see all the lovely spots around the island (quite expensive) although the local buses are pretty good too. Plenty of walking/hiking trails especially the walk around the rim of Caldeira e Capelinhos. Lots of amazing view points and botanical gardensGuest review byJOHNUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. This makes it even more confusing as to why they would not be receptive to their customers.Guest review byRosannaCanada - 10.0
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 10.0

Spectacular park and hot springs. The foliage in the park is magnificent rivalling some of the most iconic parks in the world. Quiet, close to quiet seaside town with whale watching, fishing and good food.Guest review byMikePortugal - 10.0
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10.0

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 8.0
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do.
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do. Great hotels and friendly staff. There is a "pool" downtown at the seawall within the ocean due to rocks that have been placed, so you can swim. They have a stage where artists and singers can perform. Lots of cute shops with great merchansie to purchase, with easy streets to walk through. Lots of cobbled stones, so wear comfortable shoes. Great restaurants down cute little streets and lots of friendly people who want to help you regardless if you can speak portuguese or not.Guest review byPamelaUnited States
