Still a residential area despite some tourist accommodation. Lots of small cafes very close by, some traditional, some trendy. You'll be close to the Puppet Museum and a 10m walk away from the excellent Museu de Arte Antinguo, where there's a beautiful riverside garden and cafe. It's a 15 to 20 minutes walk in the other direction to the central Praca do Commercio. If you don't like walking, catch a tram or an Uber. Inside, the studio apartment is a bright, well designed space on the ground floor. The kitchen is well equipped and we very much appreciated the washing machine. Shower gel, cleaning products etc all provided, which made for an easy stay. There's a spacious cupboard which is big enough for those of us who don't travel light! We would certainly come back to this apartment if it was available. Be prepared to walk, mostly uphill it seemed. Easy to get to the ferry, bus and trams. Unfortunately, there was a lot of garbage around which was probably from tourists and not from the locals. I think it was difficult to keep neat and clean although we did see many street cleaners. The Time Out Market was great fun, noisy, crowded but an event in itself. The custard tarts were delicious. The Resistance Museum reminds us of todays fears and angst. The Oceanaria was wonderful. The airport is horrendous especially the passport control system. Chaos. It is a lovely area to visit and there is a good choice of places to eat. Using the train to get there from the airport is easy and cheap. Beach and rugged cliff coastline was a good combo . Excellent choices of restaurants from higher end ( Bougain) and simpler but good . The Paula Rego centre was a major draw for me and I wasn’t disappointed . Pretty parks to stroll in the shade too. The harbour and beaches are buzzing. If I’d have had longer I’d have hired a bike and cycled along to Estoril and the other direction to the lighthouse and beaches . The train service along the coast is reasonably priced and reliable. Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want...
Estoril is ideal for singles, couples and families who want a relaxing break away. There are plenty of hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants but there isn’t a specific area or ‘strip’ of these, they are just dotted around. The casino and its garden are a dominant and attractive focal point so there are a few places near to it. There’s Portuguese food, of course, but also Italian, Chinese, Indian and Japanese. You can get fish and seafood dishes of any sort but there’s also lots of steak on offer. Prices are very reasonable. Some people travel in and out of the town specifically and solely to use the beach by day or the casino by night, some to attend events at the glamorous looking fort on the beach, so the town isn’t dead but it can feel quiet at certain times. It’s definitely a chilled out place to stay in. There are only a few local shops for groceries and not really any souvenir shops. In my opinion, it has more of a local, residential vibe and isn’t touristy. For a change of scene, by train Cascais is just a 5 minute ride away or Lisbon is about 40 minutes away. It’s great to visit either and then escape the crowds by returning to Estoril! There is currently a replacement bus service in operation after 9pm (not sure how easy that is to use) but at other times the trains are very frequent and inexpensive.Guest review byPaulaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Oeiras is a suburb of Lisbon, so not overwhelmed by tourists. We found some great places to eat that were appreciative of our custom. There was a fantastic vegan restaurant just outside the town centre (Alma Veg). A nice town, with a moderate-sized beach, a good range of restaurants in all classifications, some historical stuff, and a modern but still cosy atmosphere. Great for a week of leisure, beach, trips into the beautiful natural environment, and all. It is relatively close to Lisbon, but can be a difficult to reach by public transport. (Many routes are possible, depending on your day, time , and preferences.) Just go through it, spend 2 hours on the transfer, enjoy the view, the towns, and locals. We visited (a.o.) 2 great places for dinner: Black Coffee Sical (not just coffee, but also lovely meals and all) BATEL (a bit pricy, but OMG, what a tasty dishes they served us) Enjoy the food and atmosphere of these two contrasting places ! And one surprising hub on the beach promenade: the Gelatomania, an outlet for ice-creams, pancakes, waffles, coffees, and many more indulgences. Always busy, fast staff, and just delicious. Popular among young and old crowd, locals, tourists, families, caring couples, solo travellers, casual friends and thirsty dogs.
