It is a beatiful island with great arhitecture and vibe, perfect for long walks and chill. If you'd like to come here for the beach, it is not the best option. The few beaches available are expensive and they have no sand. The water is also very cold, but at least it is clean. The accomodation on the island tends to be a bit pricy and not very confortable. The local food is very good and people very friendly and helpful. Lovely place to escape to when you want to get away from the madness of Istanbul. It has a lot of derelict but gorgeous buildings, a lot of history, beautiful mansions and buildings and is just a cute lil place to go for a walk or ride a bike. As a small island, it's possible to get around the whole place by bike in a couple of hours. There are a lot of beaches, but most of them require payment. Adalar is a great place to unwind.
Adalar is a great place to unwind. Having said that, there are frequent boats into Istanbul (and other islands) if you want some more activity/sightseeing etc. Chilled experience - we ate in various places in town. I'd probably avoid those overlooking the sea ... places in the streets behind are less touristy, better value and generally provide a nicer experience. There are good buses, although we walked everywhere - and there are loads of places to hire bicycles.
