Sleepy scenic town with some really cool cafes and restaurants. Airy , non crowded night market with lots of games and options for food. Even without Taroko fully open after the earthquake , Hualien is a great stop over for the scenic East Coast of Taiwan.Guest review byAishwarya - 8.0

The place to stay overnight on your bike trip from Hualien to Taitung. Explore local restaurants like the Green Elf 綠精靈 with its delicious hot pots. Don't miss the rafting trip down the Hsiukuluan River with East Sea 東海 Company, the best in the business.Guest review byRadovan ŠkultétyTaiwan - 10.0

It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from comparing to HuaLiang which is 18KM south of XinCheng. But, this town is also 18 KM closer to Taroko National Park. I highly recommend "Memories Homestay" for your overnight accommodation. It has the best CP value.Guest review byleeUnited States - 8.0
This is my second visit to Hualien City.
This is my second visit to Hualien City. It was good to get to know the area better. Although I spent the majority of my time at Dong Awa University, I was able to visit the Stone Museum and the Slow Food centre.Guest review byBrian & KarenNew Zealand - 10.0

Our interest was in travelling up the Taroko Gorge. Although spectacular, the access limitations imposed since the last major earthquake made our travel almost a non-event. Be aware, the visitor centre is closed, 2nd Monday each month, grrr.Guest review byBrianNew Zealand
