I thought that I just booked a room! I found that breakfast and dinner buffet were included, along with coffee, tea, ice-cream, and snacks all day long, as well as free laundry facilities and bicycles. I had seen free laundry and snacks mentioned in other reviews and, frankly, I didn't really believe it! The laundry facilities were excellent and included detergent as well. The breakfast and dinner buffet options were substantial. The room was also surprisingly nice with an excellent shower and toilet with bidet functions. All around fabulous for the price - I would stay here again the next time I was in Hualien for a hike.

I stayed one night at Hi-yes Hotel in Hualien, and the experience was truly delightful. The location is convenient—just a short walk from the train station—and there are plenty of nearby sights for day trips. One of the highlights was grabbing a free drink or ice cream from the front desk, a perfect way to cool down! Both breakfast and the late-night snack were thoughtfully prepared and genuinely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and patient, always ready to help. I also loved the photo area with a boat-shaped prop—it looked amazing in pictures. Overall, the stay was relaxing and full of thoughtful little touches. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Hualien

    Sleepy scenic town with some really cool cafes and restaurants. Airy , non crowded night market with lots of games and options for food. Even without Taroko fully open after the earthquake , Hualien is a great stop over for the scenic East Coast of Taiwan.

    It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from...

    It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from comparing to HuaLiang which is 18KM south of XinCheng. But, this town is also 18 KM closer to Taroko National Park. I highly recommend "Memories Homestay" for your overnight accommodation. It has the best CP value.

    This is my second visit to Hualien City.

    This is my second visit to Hualien City. It was good to get to know the area better. Although I spent the majority of my time at Dong Awa University, I was able to visit the Stone Museum and the Slow Food centre.

    Our interest was in travelling up the Taroko Gorge.

    Our interest was in travelling up the Taroko Gorge. Although spectacular, the access limitations imposed since the last major earthquake made our travel almost a non-event. Be aware, the visitor centre is closed, 2nd Monday each month, grrr.
