We had so much fun there. We could listen to the ocean waves from inside the room or on the small balcony. It was an easy walk to the beach, and the sunsets were spectacular. We were able to save a little money by cooking our own breakfasts in the unit. It had a kitchenette complete with dinnerware,, pans and utensils.. The weather was cool and rainy so we didn't get in the water. We're looking forward to a summer or fall visit to spend more time on the beach. It was a great experience.

My husband and I loved this hotel. We decided to splurge on a room with a hottub and a balcony facing the ocean. After a long, beautiful walk in the beach right in front of the hotel we came back to a good soak in the tub, sat on the balcony to watch the sun go down and then slept very well in the very comfortable bed.

Initially we were disappointed by Portland - downtown main area was pretty empty and full of people on drugs etc. After going on a coast tour we got tips on best areas and fell in love with it very quickly. It's all about the neighbourhoods. We loved the Rose Garden and the Japanese Garden was stunning (we have been to Japan and my husband lived there so have some comparison). We loved Alberta Arts District, Nob Hill, Powell's City of Books and the Saturday market by the river and farmer's market. We also saw live music in NE area and ate very well wherever we went. Just don't expect it to be a regular city with classic tourist areas or busy downtown.

We attended the play "Importance of Being Earnest" which was superb, as was the Preface beforehand. There is plentiful free parking near the theaters and restaurants. We ate at La Briccola, Louie's, and Morning Glory; all had excellent food and service. We walked through Lithia Park which was a treat and even saw a Barred Owl which was a pleasant surprise. We will be returning to Ashland. It is a fun town!

Astoria is a unique town in a unique location.

Astoria is a unique town in a unique location. I love the architecture of many of the homes in Astoria and the way they are arrayed along hilly streets. The town is fairly compact so attractions are never a long drive away. Ships coming in from the sea to go up the Columbia river or returning to the sea lend interest as you drive or walk around the city. Astoria remains one of my favorite cities in the Pacific Northwest!
