The hotel is in a good location, close to the beach, although we found Ha Long a very strange town as it full of empty luxurious buildings and empty streets. The area seemed quiet in general, not sure if we were there during the off season. However we found our stay here very comfortable, it was the first hotel we checked in where most of the staff spoke English. We also wanted to exchange money and they were honest that they did not have the best rates and recommended us where to go for the best exchange rate, which we appreciated after feeling as you are being considered as a walking ATM everywhere you go to, typical for Asian culture towards tourists. They were also kind enough to offer us a bottle of water each when checking out, which is a small gesture but its the little things that makes a difference.

spent here more time than was planned due sickness, I could not choose a better place....Superkind host, allowed us to do an earlier check in. Get extra blankets and towels. Pretty clean rooms. Rooftop pool was nice as well.

The staff are amazing! They are so helpful and attentive! Also very friendly and welcoming which is so nice after some other places we've been The hotel it's self is beautiful, well kept and somewhere you want to spend time The rooms are clean and spacious and equipped with everything you need, and even if it's not the staff try their best to help you We especially like that there is a cafe downstairs as this is convenient and brings a welcoming feeling, with great food and drinks

    Cat Ba Dream Hotel overlooks the waterfront esplanade and the bay of Cat Ba, it is quite majestic. The room is large enough with a big window to capture that majestic view. Bed is large and comfortable for a good deep sleep. I had originally booked a "high floor" but that did not guarantee us a view, so I had to upgrade to get the view, well worth the few extra $s. Booked a cruise and a cheap motor bike and the forward bus journey to Ninh Binh. All good experiences at Cat Ba Dream Hotel.

    Staff very accommodating. Fresh sheets, towels, water and extra coffee every morning. Free brekkie was very good - they have a menu and you pick one meal and drink. The sandwiches are really big. Nice clean pool which was quiet enough. They have a bar and restaurant but music stops early around 9pm. Extended our stay because we liked it so much!

    Enjoyed Cat Ba, but don’t go on others reviews for accomodation, check out places fully, we changed places twice and would have changed again but decided to stick it out, do not accept a bad room, ask for one which you believe you have paid for and as it was described when you booked it. Don’t book for a weekend or public holiday, the Vietnamese flood the town. We found best value places to eat and drink, cheapest and great food Oasis restaurant, The big man for good western food.

    Very tranquil ,beautiful.views , enjoyed the swim and canoeing which were part of the trip, food was good . Be prepared for all the rub bish floating which was a shame and the hawkers in the little boats trying to sell.you stuff, we had a cabin with a balcony which was nice but as we were right next to the water they could harass you . The drinks on the boat were really expensive . If you want to have a glass of wine etc in your room just bring your own there is a fridge

    Great place for tours/excursions such as the cruises that take place often, or a day trip organised to other areas. Had some lovely restaurants and coffee spots too. However, currently lots of construction taking place in the town so if you had time, I'd say it's worth it for the visit but wouldn't be missing out on loads currently if you planned to go but with no intention of doing the cruises or a tour.

    We planned to stay in Halong for 1 day, on our way to Cat Ba...

    We planned to stay in Halong for 1 day, on our way to Cat Ba island and planned to stay another day on our way back to Hanoi. Due to rough seas after typhoon Kajiki, we stayed 2 days in Halong. The town is very quiet, many businesses and hotels are closed and it shows what happens to a once busy and thriving place, when the tourists no longer come in their previous numbers. Unfortunately, we will stay the extra day now in Hanoi on our way back.

    Did not want to do the hiking in Cat Ba national park,...

    Did not want to do the hiking in Cat Ba national park, however we hired a scooter and this is a great way of seeing a place. Loved taking the cable car to Hai Phong (when travelling back to Hanoi) instead of the ferry. This is is run by Sun World which also runs the cable car in Ha Long.
