- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.9Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 112 reviewsEverything about Hillsnek was outstanding. It was my very first time on a game drive ever so I didn’t know what to expect. The pictures on Booking were beautiful already but let me tell you - you will be absolutely blown away when you get there. We‘ve parked the car rather close to the entry thinking we’d just arrived at the Camp but that’s just when we met Nikki, our guide for the whole trip that picked us up and drove us to the actual campsite. We were greeted with delicious cookies and a welcome drink, getting to know everything and brought to our tent afterwards. You’d think you’ll get a full glamping experience but that was far beyond everything we’ve ever experienced. The bathroom and bed were huge, everything was spotless, no bugs in our tent at any point and the outdoor shower was just the cherry on the cake. The food was outstanding; everything was displayed so beautifully and every meal was delicious. You’ll never go to bed even remotely hungry. The service was excellent in any way. We always felt so welcome and highly appreciated all the efforts everyone made - everything was so personal without it ever being too much, everyone was so lovely all the time (even though wake up times are sometimes reallyyy early but you could never tell) and you just felt like home (but even better). The game drives were outstanding as well. The amount of things we’ve learned thanks to Nikki are priceless and besides the Leopard we were able to cross of the big five right away even though the area is enormous! We’ve stayed four days and didn’t even cover a third of the whole park. The vegetation changes so much throughout the drives and you’re just sitting there in absolute awe. My personal highlight was the close encounter with the elephants at the poolside. I’ll never forget the time at Hillsnek and can highly recommend it to everyone!Guest review byNievesGermany
- From US$805.39 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 101 reviewsAmakhala consists of several old farms which decided to give up farming and start as a game lodge (years back). So nature reconquered the plantations and ecologists supervise the balance of animals. Leeuwenbosch is one of these old farms. We did two game drives (afternoon and early morning) which are included in the room tariff. Ranger Eubut is phenomenal, he shares many information about animal and plants and their habitat. We saw Cheetas, Elephants, Black Rhinos, Hippos and all kinds of Antilopes, Birds and small animals. Amazing! Food (which is all inclusive) was excellent and served by extremely friendly personnel. Extra point: there is a pub where you can sit with other guests before / after evening dinner and have a drink and chat. Bottom line: Very pleasant stay, very nice game experience. Recommendation!Guest review byGerdKrügerGermany

We went on 2 games drives a day and each time we saw new scenes! Not only the big 5 but all the other animals going about their business (buck, jackals, meerkats, zebras). Our safari guide (Abby) was very knowledgeable and also very entertaining. The room was spacious, the lodge was cosy and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.Guest review byOliviaAustralia

The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful.
The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff. The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He really did his best to find the animals we all wanted to see and made it a special experience.Guest review byHuwUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We did an afternoon Giraffe walk through Bellevue Lodge and it was amazing - we were taken on a safari vehicle onto a game reserve and from there had to find the grazing giraffe. Once we spotted them, we drove close by and then got out of the vehicle to walk close (but not too close) to the giraffe to watch them eat their dinner. It was a lovely experience, and our guide Stephen was knowledgeable and friendly, answering all our questions. We stayed at the Bellevue Lodge for 1 night, it was a lovely small property with friendly staff.Guest review bySusanSwitzerland - 10.0
Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature.
Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature. Super bedroom and in the morning all kind of animals where in front of your room. Also the Akmala Game reserve tour is highly recommendable because we saw so many wild animals (lions, rhino's, cheetahs, secretary bird,...) The dinner in the lodge was superb.Guest review byBENNYSlovenia - 10.0

This was a new listing , and we were the first guests, LUCKY US!! The facilities offered are too many to mention. An updated kitchen with everything that opens and closes and more. Filter water on tap, a wine fridge, every spice that you can imagine. If you have forgotten anything at home, no stress they have it. A beautiful, clean, large family home. The beds are comfortable, shower pressure is great, wifi, dstv and views from every bedroom. Our host Larraine was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. This gem is a true home from homeGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species. As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies! There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people. There are several lodges in the reserve to choose as your base (we stayed at Safari Lodge, which was brilliant).Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The whole experience was amazing.
The whole experience was amazing. Difficult to put into words. Spectacular views from the lodge, very knowledgeable and professional rangers, great food, extremely friendly atmosphere, very thoughtful touches (like running a bubble bath on return from game drive), wonderful decor.Guest review byMuttlichUnited Kingdom
