- From US$637.73 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 357 reviewsOur three day trip turned out to be absolutely marvellous and we loved every bit of it. First of all, I would like to acknowledge both our guide and tracker, Sharon and Rodney. They were entertaining and very knowledgeable. They not only gave great description of every animal we came across but educated us quite a bit about the local life and even the plant species we came across. There were many Aha (!) moments for us. Thanks to Rodney and Sharon we had one of the most interesting encounters when a pride of lions were strategising to take down a buffalo. They had created a circle around them- however the extremely powerful buffalos were quite nonchalant, walked towards the male alpha and scared him off! No hunting scenes for us but on another day we saw the same pride eating what appeared to be an Impala (they had hidden the food behind a thick bush. The African elephant is a formidable beast. On the first day, seeing it cross our safari vehicle gave us some jitters. These looked more like Woolly Mammoths ( without fur) because the tusks almost touched the ground. Watching a herd of giraffe pass by gave us Jurassic park vibes. Another special moment was when a herd of female elephants walked by our camp to the river below and I could see a tiny elephant baby with a wiggly gait following its mother in the most adorable fashion. Watching every animal is exciting, be it a zebra, wildebeest, impala, kudu, funny warthogs or tortoises! Impalas were omnipresent and were described as McDonalds for lions (fast food, in a way). Among the big 5 we missed the Leopard but watching an extremely lazy Cheetah turning and tossing like like a house cat was endearing. The river lodge were we stayed is extremely beautiful. It is right across the river where we often saw a herd of Kudus and once a giant Hippo. It has all amenities you can think of and is cleaned twice a day by the extremely kind staff which made it so welcoming when we came back from a Safari.Guest review byAltamishIndia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.9Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 59 reviewsMe and my partner had the pleasure of staying at Makumu! It was seriously outstanding from start to finish. Here's why we loved it: 1. Unforgettable Experience: Our safari at Makumu was mind-blowing. We got up close with wild animals and learned so much about them. Special mention to our tracker Safari and ranger AD, where you could clearly see his love to the bush and his exceptional talent on understanding the wild animals behaviour and helped us understand the animals better as well as make the experience much better thanks to him. 2. Great Staff: The people at Makumu were incredible. They were not only highly professional but also incredibly warm and friendly. They made us feel like part of their family in just 4 days. We'll never forget our time there, thanks Cherie, Shelley, AD, Ruan, and the rest of the great team. 3. Luxurious Rooms: The lodge itself was like a work of art. The rooms were super comfy and stylish. They created the perfect blend of comfort and immersion in nature. You could tell they put a lot of thought into the design. 4. Culinary Paradise: The food was out of this world! The chef's dishes were tasty and varied, everyday we tried something new. Dining by the fire on the boma under the African stars with animal sounds in the background? Just unforgettable. 5. Top Marks: Seriously, if we could rate everything, it would be a perfect 10. The safaris, the staff, the lodge's vibe, and the food - all exceeded our wildest expectations. Just thanks, we'll be back for sure.Guest review byVictor Q.Spain
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 10.0Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 22 reviewsOnce in a lifetime truly amazing experience! Every single detail was truly perfect, the highlights were of course the amazing safari, the exceptional staff and superbly delicious food. It was really a 5 star experience with every aspect of the trip fully included and at the highest level. Ryan our game driver was the best - he went out of his way at every moment to make sure we had the most enjoyable experience and it wouldn't have been the same without him. He had great finds of animals and was a wealth of information - we saw the big 5 in our first day! He is funny with a great personality that made the experience even better than I could imagine. Chef Alex - The food was exceptional, we couldn't miss a meal and always looked forward to what he created. The best food I have ever had at an hotel or all-inclusive experience. He was able to customize any meals for my partner who is vegetarian with ease. Songs (our butler) - Really took care of us and made each dinning experience even better, with his kindness and great personality. His wine recommendations were always spot on. Also to mention the heated pool was a major bonus - with so much time spent going on game drives I am sad to say we only got to use it once. The price did seem expensive when booking - but when you consider how many game drives we got to do, the exceptional meals we had and the amazing service it was really worth every penny.Guest review byBradleyCanada
- From US$1,043.55 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 266 reviewsOur luxury hut was set deep in the Timbavati private game reserve. The drive to Motswari itself is lined with all the wildlife you’d hope to see on a trip to Africa. We had a magical stay here (2 nights). From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you are really looked after. The service from the staff was next level, they made you feel so welcome and clearly wanted you to have a special experience. Our game driver Godfrey and tracker Elly were charismatic and so informative about the African bush and wildlife. We saw all the big 5 and more, with the most special experience of spotting a leopard in the tree protecting its kill - something we’ll never forget. When not on a game drive you get to enjoy the beautiful views of the reserve from the pool or restaurant where elephants, giraffes and hyenas regularly stroll past. The food and drink was exceptional, they ensured each meal was different and set in a new location, from bush breakfasts to dinners around a log fire and braai. It was a once in a lifetime experience, we certainly hope we'll return some day!Guest review byRebeccaAustralia

We stayed there for our honeymoon, and a wonderful gift was kindly prepared in our room. On the game drive, we were able to go deeper into the area than when we drove on our own, and were able to see valuable scenes of animals, such as lions eating their prey, from a distance of about 3 meters. We recommend staying at least 2 nights if possible. Thank you to Kapama for providing such a wonderful time.Guest review bySachihoJapan

No borders with kruger makes it all the better. Lots if driving but worth it. Liton our guide made the difference seriously. Without a good guide who can track would it would not be the same. Great placeGuest review byRichardSpain - 8.0
Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges...
Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges inside. It is open to Kruger park, so animals are free to roam anywhere. The difference is that the ranger and tracker can actually follow an animal wherever they go (without entering Kruger). It is expensive , but if you can afford it, the experience is quite different. The ranger and tracker that took us for a drive from Umkumbe were great. The ranger spotted a chameleon on the tree, in the dark, under the light beam from the trackers torch, at a distance of about 25m. We have no clue how! Great experience to be able to go offroad in the vehicle and get really close to the animals. A leopard had hidden their kill in the tree, which we went back to after dark, when the leopard had come back. Unfortunately that was the only cat we saw that night. Saw a hippo and a hyena too, but that's just luck when you are out in the bush. A family on the previous night had seen the leopard kill the buck as well. The private Sabi game drive is expensive, and depending on how lucky you get, you might think it is either worth it/or a waste of money.Guest review bySagarAustralia - 10.0

It was a brilliant experience, in particular the game drives and being out in the wild. The resort is excellent! Tips: No loo on a 3-hour game drive so don’t drink too much before heading out. For photographers - consider using two cameras - short lens and long lens ones. Saves having to switch lens if you have two cameras ready. Speed if reaction is required to capture some shots.Guest review byAoifeIreland - 10.0

Lot's of wild life to view even when driving in.
Lot's of wild life to view even when driving in. A variety of lodges available. What could be better is the path/road leading into the lodge as it's not tarred and has many steep inclines whichGuest review byTsumeNetherlands - 10.0

I am South African and I was bringing my family to see where I came from and experience the bush. This place was perfect for a family . They rooms for families are excellent, giving everyone enough space and the beds where very comfy. There is no TV - but there is bush TV - each day elephants, warthogs, various species of buck, zebra etc came and spent time out the front of our deck. We sat 1m away reading a book. We go so close it was wonderful and the kids got to experience the beauty of watching an animal relaxed and happy in their own environment. Andre and Nicholas were amazing guides who were patient and funny and taught us a lot about the animals and the environment. The food was amazing and you never felt like you wanted or needed more. Pretty much everything was made onsite. The breakfast was beautiful and the Boma experience was lovely! Thank you to all the team at Simbevati River lodge for making my family’s introduction to Africa such a wonderful memorable experience! And the animals - well we saw the big 5 in less than 24 hours and because the guides know their stuff we had plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with many of Africas famous and less famous animals. The highlights were the Lion and Leopards and of course the dear family of elephants with tiny babies and also the baby hyenas! You will not be disappointed at all !Guest review bySianAustralia - 8.0

We loved the wildness of Manyeleti, and felt much closer to nature here than at Kruger. I feel that people are unaware of the real impact on the nature of things like synthetic soaps and compost toilets should be mandatory. However Manyeleti is better than Kruger in this respect.Guest review byBeatriceSouth Africa - 8.0

I paid 5,700 Rand for 3 evening drives in the reserve each lasting around 3 hours. I've been on many a game drive in the area over the years and when game spotting I am optimistic and realistic at the same time. I saw a 3 lions and a leopard along with other animals. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate my overall experience as 6. If I were to travel to the area in the future I would book 1 drive and concentrate my game viewing in Kruger Park.Guest review bydonUnited Kingdom
