United KingdomThis place is a step back in time and is amazing. The owners are the some of the nicest people you can ever hope to meet. I arrived on a Sunday during a motorcycle trip through Cape and had managed to get a puncture. It didnt take long for the owner to have the bike in their own workshop wheel off and on it way to being repaired. The hotel is actively involved in the motorcycle scene in the area was soon introduced to other who came to chat Motorcycle travel. What an awesome evening and a great sleep.

United KingdomWe loved the quirkiness of the hotel that was its real charm. The art on the walls and all the decor had real charm and character.
There is a proper bar area where on one evening they had a very good pianist playing. You definitely get the feeling that the hotel is something of a hub for the village and community and a lot of activity centres around it.
Some of the rooms are bigger and nicer than others, and we were able to change ours to a nicer more spacious
one.
Staff were very accommodating
and helpful and we’re able to advise and arrange lots for us to do- on that don’t miss a dip in the local fresh water river - a wonderful start to our day!
Breakfast was really delicious with lots of variety.
Garden and pool area was very pretty and a lovely place to relax as well.

We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale, because when we arrived at the locked farm gate, we found there was no reception. We couldn't reach him, and it was soon getting dark, so we had to keep driving until we got signal again, which only took five minutes. Wann, the manager, was soon there and opened the gate to paradise for us... remote, behind two other farms, we were able to spend comfortable days in this Karoo resort. Wann was always available, and one evening his wife cooked us a delicious meal. A river, a hot tub, an ice bath, peace and quiet, and an endless sky—what more could you want? Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. From the main road it looks like just another dusty deserted Karoo town. What a pleasant surprise on turning off into the little town. We had a superb breakfast at @Stuff and met some interesting locals. we have been to Oudtshoorn several times over a number of years. The attractions are mainly the same but still worth a visit - however interesting to see how much the town has grown and evolved. Route 62 is a great drive and Barrydale is a convenient distance from Cape Town for a stop, The village is small but has interesting places to visit. Arrive in time to look round and leave the next by lunchtime the next day - that's all the time you need but it's worth taking time to stop and look round.
