How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The property needed a thorough and deep clean with dust buildup and windows and ledges not very clean.

Breakfast was very nice, although rea and coffee service was a little slow, had to ask again. Garden view room was exceptional even if bathroom needs a little modernising. Loved the dressing room, fridge and coffee machine. Clean and spacious

Felt the barman a tad rude ordered orange juice for my wife and he just stuck an unopened bottle on the table. No ice. A small thing but unprofessional

Beds not very comfortable and the bathroom really needed a much deeper clean. Lots of dust, smears and hairs. Bath didn’t look like it had been cleaned, at least not very well and the mirrors had marks over them.

Would have been good if original room had AC and negated move. The elevated was very slow to arrive and sometimes not available. Fortunately we were able to use the!stairs.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. Moved rooms due to heatwave and into a room with AC. Had to wait a day but staff did all they could to accommodate. The hotel is a taste of history with beautiful old paintings and information on hand. The grounds were gorgeous, lots of different trees with info. We got into the habit of a walk in the grounds after breakfast. Beautiful!

It was quite dusty, the bedside fan needed to be cleaned throughly. The area around the radiator in the bathroom needs a through clean. As the windows had to be kept open as it was exceptionally hot, we noticed that the outside of the window sills was full of cobwebs and dust. The coffee machine lid was also dusty.
The room was very spacious and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of room. We had travelled down to celebrate a birthday and attend a wedding. The space in the room we had booked was very convenient and comfortable for getting ready in the morning and for relaxing after a very hot day of engagements. The coffee machine was essential for us and the complimentary bottles of water very welcome as it was very hot. The fans provided were put to good use.

On an unusually hot day 32C, lack of air conditioning in rooms was uncomfortable. However fans in rooms did help somewhat.
Elegant and comfortable atmosphere. Staff gave excellent service.

It's a bit tricky to get to without a car and the rooms & furnishings are but dated (but clean and looked after nevertheless)

The only thing that I would comment on is that the current lift needs upgrading, whilst it is quirky, it could do with am upgrade to a larger lift.
We had to book the West Lodge as our builders had not finished the renovation of our bathroom before our return from holiday. We had to stay for 4 nights and I can honestly say we loved it. The staff were wonderful, friendly, welcoming and ever so helpful. The hotel has such a charm and being off the main road, you really feel that you leave the world at the gates. The grounds are excellent, we had some lovely walks in the evening. Breakfast was a revelation. I couldn't get over the choice available but also that we got to eat at formally dressed tables. It was excellent.
