Sharon was a lovely host and the castle and grounds were spectacular, even in the rain😊. Felt like we had been transplanted onto the set of a BBC period drama but with all the modern day convenience tastefully added in the background. Although the Castle doesn’t cater for dinner, the recommendation of the local pub/restaurant (Mary Ann’s) a short walk away was excellent (fantastic fish).

Note that the village offers limited dining options, so keep this in mind if you plan to eat dinner locally more than once.

A picturesque setting, seamless check-in process, hospitable host, exceptional room, and delicious breakfast. Our stay was flawless and thoroughly enjoyable.

Absolutely nothing - we love staying here.

This is a very special place run by very special people. It is an old manor house, located on the edge of the bay - it is a manor house castle. It has been run by the same family for 11 generations in the town (Castletownshed) which is named for the family. The site is extremely secure and quiet. It is filled with 16th and 17th century antiques and paintings. There are very few rooms (5? 6?), all but one of which views the water. Each one is unique and custom furnished. The complete breakfast is made for each customer separately and served in the old dining room, which has all the beauty of an old estate with water (bay) views. There is a small, self-service, honor bar located downstairs. The current generation operating it (Sharon and Justin) could not be more welcoming or helpful - Sharon is a delight as is the person serving breakfast (who has been there 10 years - sorry I forgot her name). The two of them make getting up in the morning a pleasure. The 90 acre grounds have walking trails and a tower dedicated to one of its former guest - Jonathan Swift. Within walking distance and just up the street is a truly fine restaurant - Mary Ann's (reservations usually needed). We have been coming here for years, and hope to return many times in the future. It is an old building with no elevator but can't be found anywhere else, but remember, it is an old building - don't expect an modern place. This is worth going out-of-the-way to be with these hosts and the others there to stay at The Castle.

The bathroom door does not close all the way over or lock. Even as a couple some more privacy would be nice.

Really friendly host and very easy check in process. The castle was completely stunning and full of rich history. Clean and spacious rooms with extremely comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast of high quality ingredients!

Absolutely fabulous place in the picturesque location right next to the beach. The landlady is an exceptional host and did everything for us to feel welcome. You really feel like a princess in a fairytale. Delicious breakfast, wine fridge and very comfortable bed. We honestly enjoyed every second staying in the Castle.

This is an exceptional and unique location in Ireland and was the highlight of our week long trip. The Castle itself is beautiful and historic and you feel like you are walking into a different era when you arrive, surrounded by history, The rooms are beautful, we stayed in a upper corner room with amazing views across the water and overall property. Everything was top-notch; the host Sharon was so nice and accommodating and the breakfast is wonderful in the morning. The gardens and property itself are beautify and you are situated right o the water. We hiked around the large proprty which included forests and a historic cross hidden amoungst the trees. I dont think you will be able to find another experience quite like this and cannot reccomend it highly enough, it far surpassed our expectations. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer!

We were made to feel so welcome and at ease. The whole experience from start to finish was so relaxed and friendly and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful, and the breakfast was out of this world literally the nicest breakfast we've ever had. The server for breakfast was so nice, as was our host. We can't wait to stay here again.

Old Style, Class. Beautiful grounds, plants & flowers. Beautiful coastal & sea views. Nearby very good restaurant at Mary Ann’s, (advance booking essential, I would think). Warm welcome. Honesty bar, not a serviced bar here.
