This was an exceptional stay. I've always had the dream to stay at a ryokan with my own private onsen attached. The Suisen has blown all my expectations out the water. The Ryokan is incredibly beautiful and the staff is wonderful and helps wherever they can. You get your own separate dining room in the restaurant and are served Japanese food of the highest quality. I stayed two nights and got served Kaiseki the first night and Sukiyaki the second. Breakfast was traditionally Japanese both mornings. My room was spotless and beautiful. Free drinks were provided, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Having a private wooden onsen on the balcony was wonderful and I enjoyed both evenings, relaxing in the onsen while sipping on Nihonshu and enjoying the beautiful garden below. There is also a private onsen outdoors, which can be booked for a fee for a certain amount of time and also gender separated onsen, that can be used by everyone, located on the ground floor. Free milk is provided outside the onsen and you also have access to free ice cream and hot drinks at any point in the lobby. You are provided with a Yukata on arrival, which you can wear inside your room, to dinner and while walking around the ryokan. The location is in the middle of nowhere in the beautiful nature of Kyoto prefecture. The staff contacts you before arrival and asks you, when you want to be picked up from Kameoka station via their shuttle service. I would suggest picking an early timeslot, so you are able to spend as much time at the Suisen as you can. I took a long walk on my second day around the area and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the area. If you are looking to escape the hectic life of the Japanese cities or want to wind down after several weeks of sightseeing, look no further than the Suisen.

The service of the staff was amazing from before arrival through after our stay. Before arrival, i bombarded them with dozens of questions, and they responded promptly and helpfully to each one of them. During our stay, we had a personal butler attend to our dinner, bedding, and every need. During check-out, there was a little hiccup with arranging our bags for delivery to our next hotel, but the staff offered to personally deliver our luggage instead which ensured our travel plans were not affected in any way.

Wish I stayed here longer. The staff is really lovely and very helpful, they can also speak English. They helped us send our luggage off to our next hotel too. Room was large, clean, and the futon was a dream to sleep on. The onsen here has been my favourite and is well looked after.

Kindness of staff, incredible location, accessibility to onsen (tattoos allowed), amazing breakfast. We were with our almost 2 year old son who loved it. The staff was very attentive and friendly and Mitsumi in particular was lovely with us.

Wonderful Ryokan - serene location with onsen which was fabulous . Good sized room . Staff were lovely and the full Japanese breakfast was ‘different ‘ but an amazing experience . Dressing gown , slippers and traditional clothing provided which added to making it a unique Japanese experience . Shuttle service to and from the station is also a big plus and extremely helpful.

Exceptionally friendly, food outstanding and room utterly clean. They were so happy and excited about my 15month old baby and made sure he was comfortable as well. Ryokan and Onsen experience was one of a kind. I wish I could have booked more than one night.

I loved this Ryokan - it was a little far from town but that is what we were wanting. It was so beautiful and a great experience for Japanese culture. I loved experiencing the traditional breakfast. The tea and treat you get at the start was also super fun. The private onsen was amazing and great for people with tattoos

The outdoor onsen was quite pleasant. It was just us when we went to the onsen so in a way it was like our own private onsen. The futon was very comfortable. The shampoo was really nice smelling and the experience when we were waiting for our rooms to be made was pleasant.

It looks new and modern but they found the way to keep the tradition japanese atmosphere inside the hotel. There fountains with koi, zen gardens, kabuki mask on the walls illuminated by traditional japanese lamps. The tatami rooms have everything you can ask for a complete experience in a ryokan, in particular if you get the one with the private bath. Food is simply delicious.
