This was the highlight of our journey around Japan. It is a beautiful, friendly and welcoming place in the countryside. The staff and owner are lovely and made us feel very welcome and at ease from the beginning. The quality of the food is excellent. The room was also comfortable and spacious with access to the beautiful onsen. We came here with our two children and found plenty to do nearby. You will need to use a combination of taxis and trains, but there is plenty in the local area.

Big and convenient rooms. The private onsen was very nice. The hotel is conveniently located next to the Hakone ropeway. Free shuttle from Odawara station three times per day.

This is a beautiful traditional hotel. The dinner and breakfast service was so delicious and we enjoyed the experience very much. The private onsen experience was lovely. The rooms were comfortable. They provided us with yukata summer kimonos to wear around the hotel which made the experience even better. The staff were very friendly but did not speak very much English. The location was out of the way and took an hour and a half bus ride up the mountain but it was a great authentic feeling experience. And would be very relaxing if you don’t travel with three young children. There is a public playground just across the street which my kids loved going to. It has a few slides, gym equipment and a flying fox. There is a Chinese restaurant within a few minutes walk which has friendly staff and an English menu. The gyoza and soup was delicious. And there is a family mart within a few minutes walk also.

Opened in 1878, The Fujiya Hotel features Meiji Era architecture set in Hakone’s natural beauty.
