We loved everything about this ryokan! The room, the onsen, the food, and the service were all excellent. We felt as if we were staying in a 5-star hotel with very attentive and considerate hospitality. The generous and delicious kaiseki dinners and the abundant teishoku breakfasts were a highlight. This is truly a place where you can eat well and completely relax.

Kannawaen is an entirely non-smoking accommodation that features a garden, terrace and bar in Beppu. 100 metres from Hells of Beppu, the property is also 500 metres away from Jigokumushikobo Kannawa.

From the time we arrived we were welcomed greatly and was greeted by staff in our native language which took us by surprise. Apparently there are many staff versed in different languages to assist guests from around the world. I was impressed. The room was huge and the amenities were all there, it did not lack anything. I loved that they provided a rubber duck for the kids to play with in the private bath area. The view from our room was great - overlooking the steamy scenery of Beppu. I loved the private bath, we got an indoor and outdoor one, though the outdoor one is very dark at night since there were no lighting probably around the bath probably to protect privacy. The food served for breakfast and dinner were decent. We liked the teppanyaki dinner and the kids meals were delicious.

Maisonette facing the sea was fantastic. Love the decor of our room. Very beautiful view, room was very comfortable and spacious. Onsen was superb. English speaking staff very polite and helpful.

The staff were great and were extremely helpful, especially seeing us have many luggages The bed was arranged without us asking to fit our travelling party (we have 1 child with us, they combined 2 queen bed tog with no gap between the beds). The breakfast spread is the best I’ve had in the many Onsen resorts I’ve stayed in Japan.

Within a 10-minute walk from Beppu Station. Free WiFi is available. Surrounded by greenery, air-conditioned rooms have a seating area with large windows and garden views.

Everything was great and beyond my expectations. The room was beautiful and bigger than I thought, the shared bathroom was clean and not uncomfortable to use at all. The whole house was so beautiful, the onsen was such a treat.. I wish I had stayed longer! Breakfast was delicious too!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel , huge lobby, and room, friendly front desk staff who are able to communicate in English assisting us re room reservation issue due to unexpected health issue. Really appreciated. Dinner was the highlight with sashimi, wagu beef, hot pot with lots of seafood, countless little dishes of appetizers and finally the smooth custard.
