The best place I have stayed during my stay in Japan. The food was amazing the best sashimi I had in a while. The rooms were big enough for a family. The Onsen for family is just perfect for us with a baby. And the staff perfect.

Breakfast was a big spread with mostly local Japanese dishes. Location is about 15 mins away from Kakunodate Station. Frequent shuttle bus to/from the station was very helpful.

The buffet was great, the onsen also, very friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay and would like to come back. The hotel is near a big Buddha statue with a nice park. To the lake you can walk in 30 minutes or take the bus. To the trainstation they offer a free shuttle service.

I would say it's clean and cozy. Personally, I enjoy Japanese-style bedrooms, so it was good enough for me. It's also easy to get to Tazawako if you'd like to visit.

The food is really fantastic, hand made by the chief. The hospitality that we received from the staff is really good, and they are willing to help us search for our friends during a heavy down pour

This family run onsen retreat is over half a century old and represents the spirit of Japan in challenging times. It seems the elderly parents are now only able to provide limited help and daughter is responsible for everything. The hospitality was endearing and homely. A knock on the door for meal times was such a personal touch. The food was delicious, with extensive Kaiseki evening meals featuring multiple sashimi items, as well as fish, shrimp, crab and vegetables in the most delicious broth ever, tempura, hotpot, steak, amazing rice and multiple trimmings. Breakfasts were mixed western and traditional dishes (maybe as I'm an international visitor) and filling. The onsen was skin-tingling hot and available 24 hours. I never made it past the "cool" end away from the inlet. It warmed my bones. The room was big and easily warmed with a view of the valley. Parking was immediately in front of the building. It's a beautiful valley with documented history to the late 1500's. No question, the best value for money of my holiday.

This was an unexpected gem!! Absolutely brilliant and authentic Ryokan in the mountains outside Morioka. Hotel shuttle transfers made it super easy, and the hotel, onsen and dinner were all spectacular. Exceeded expectations. Recommend!!

Loved that there was plenty of information on onsen etiquette in English - but only at the indoor onsen. The family room was spacious. Loved the interactive art in the main corridor - a great way to spark conversations with other guests (even with language barriers). The hotel had great "bones" with a 1980s luxe feel.

Outdoor onsen was amazing. Location was great. It’s a big hotel but very traditional Japanese. Other first rate onsens nearby. Half board was very good (nowhere else to eat nearby). Shinkansen stops at Tazawako close by so easy to access. Very little English spoken but staff went out of their way to be helpful.

The dinner and breakfast buffets were really great, the staff attentive and very friendly. The surrounding mountains are impressive and the onsen bath with a relatively big outdoor part is great.

The property is situated just beside lake Tazawa which is delightful. The rooms are spacious and we had a separate dining area opposite our room. It is a traditional Japanese hotel with futon beds and kaiseki dinner plus a Japanese breakfast. It also has a ladies, mens and private onsen.
