Combining modern design with a homely decor, Kikunoya Hotel offers both Western and Japanese-style rooms. Entertainment options include cable channels and a DVD player. Certain rooms include an en suite bathroom. Toiletries and slippers are provided for in the private and shared bathroom. I arranged a special surprise with the hotel to propose to my girlfriend, initially disguised as a birthday gift with a room upgrade and room service dinner. This review is thus not representative for the room linked to this booking. However, I want to specifically praise the hotel staff, with a specific shout-out to Katagiri. They went above and beyond to make this an unforgettable experience and I cannot thank them enough! The view from the seaside rooms is amazing and the beds are very comfy, the traditional dinner is on point and the staff is just wonderful.

The food was absolutely delicious - we were eating a feast of unique foods specially prepared for us every evening and morning, which made the experience epic. Okami-san and everyone else here gregariously welcomed us with cups of beautiful matcha, and even shuttled us to and from Yasugi station and to the Adachi Museum of Art. This recently renovated ryokan is located 1.8 km from Shoin Shrine and 3.2 km from Hagi Station. The ryokan features family rooms. Very beautiful ryokan near the Hagi Castle Town with free parking. We booked a Japanese-style corner room for 3 nights and had a large garden to ourselves. The garden in the common area is also very beautiful esp at night. We opted for half board our entire stay and were very impressed with the food! The menu was different every time and we found ourselves anticipating what they’ll serve for the next meal. One of the meals they served was an all-puffer fish meal, which is arguably one of the best and most unforgettable meals of my life. The staff were also very warm and helpful up until the very moment we left. Definitely worth making the trip to Hagi just to stay here.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Room was spacious with a tatami area by the window. All amenities available by reception, with a large selection of yukata for use throughout the hotel and in the onsen on the 3rd floor. Free hotel parking is available.
Lovely place. Excellent onsen. Very good food. Very friendly and efficient staff. The waiters at dinner were particularly attentive and kind and the chef remembered my wife’s food intolerances from the original booking, so we were very impressed. If you want a ryokan experience - yukata, onsen, traditional food - with a little extra comfort this place is highly recommended.
There was a wide range of amenities, hot spring, and the restaurant food was lovely we very much enjoyed our dinner and the staff were wonderful. We had a tatami style room and it was lovely of the staff to set up the futon whilst we had dinner. There were Yukatas to borrow for our stay as well and that was lovely.
Very, very, very beautiful ryokan. The owner already greeted us at the entrance and was extremely friendly. The room was also beautiful and made you feel like living in Edo period Japan. The onsen was very relaxing, and after it, my partner was offered to wear a nice yukata for dinner. The food was extraordinary (although it could mostly not be adjusted for my admittedly picky partner, see below), both in terms of taste and in the way it was presented. I would definitely recommend this ryokan anytime to any traveller.
Japanese style room, traditional breakfast and dinner, free use of yukata and onsen bath for two, very nice staff
The hotel itself gives is beautifully designed and gives off a traditional ryokan vibe. The location is perfect and is a great option for those who plan to stay a night. They also provide yukatas and sandals for use around the island. The onsen bath was also very pleasant and I was lucky enough to receive a free room upgrade. Would definitely visit again.
The staff were very kind and welcoming, the room was spacious with lovely views of the ocean. Deers were roaming around freely outside. Dinner was a traditional Japanese meal with many courses, all lovely. While we had dinner our futons were laid out for us and they were very comfortable, we all slept very well. My daughter and I visited the on-site onsen which was spacious and had a very nice outlook. We loved wearing our Yukata’s for dinner and breakfast, made the whole experience very special.
The room had great views and was spacious. The futons were comfortable. The personnel was really kind and helpful, giving tips for where to go in the island and nice restaurants. The ryokan has a two onsens you can book for free for one hour, one of them with a nice view to a small garden, really nice. There is a kitchen where you can cook yourself which is big and a nice common area. We could not enjoy the garden as we stayed only one night. I would stay here again. Good value for the money spent.
This is a traditional Japanese style hotel: futons, onsen in the hotel. tatami mats. Really nice staff. Super conveniently placed for the ferry terminal and the shrine. Well worth getting up early and getting to the shrine before everyone arrives on the first ferries. Same in the evening. Stay here and see for yourself.
Spacious ryokan, friendly and helpful hotel staff, a shop at the lobby for last minute shopping, near shops and sightseeing places. They provided yukatas, water bottles, coffee, tea bags and delicious biscuits. They also setup your futon beds while we were out during dinner time.
