Rooms feature tatami-mat flooring, comfortable futon bedding and paper sliding screens. They are fitted with an LCD TV and a safe. Bathroom facilities are shared, and the public baths are open 16:00-22:00 and 06:00-09:00 daily. Everything about our stay was fantastic! The room was absolutely fabulous, and we were delighted to receive an upgrade. Having our own private onsen-style facility in the bathroom made the experience truly special. The monk staff were incredibly gracious, friendly, and always ready to help.

An unforgettable experience at Daimyououin! Staying at this temple was truly special: the atmosphere is timeless, peaceful, calming, and serene. The room was beautiful, with a breathtaking view of one of the temple’s gardens. Both dinner and breakfast were not only delicious but also well presented. The priests were kind and spoke enough English to make us feel welcome. We also joined the morning prayer, which was a touching experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this Shukubo to anyone looking for a meaningful and authentic stay in Koyasan! すべてありがとうございました。 とてもすてきな たいざい になりました。

Offering a garden and garden view, 高野山 宿坊 龍泉院 -Koyasan Shukubo Ryusenin- is set in Koyasan, 45 km from Matsushita Park and 47 km from Kii Fudoki No Oka Museum of Archaeology and Folklore. Offering free private parking, the 3-star ryokan is 38 km from Kishi Station. Subaru Hall is 48 km away and Jigenin Temple is 49 km from the ryokan. This temple really feels magical. The monks were very welcoming and professional. I liked how the temple is not commercial at all, and feels like a very local experience. The rooms are big and comfortable. As a solo female traveller I overall felt safe. The meals (dinner and breakfast) are typical Japanese vegetarian courses, served in very beautiful rooms. The service in the early morning was very interesting and insightful. I appreciated that there were both Japanese visitors and foreign visitors and the monks gave us an explanation in English.

Situated in Hongu, 14 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine and 21 km from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, Guest House Takiyoshi offers free WiFi and air conditioning. It is set 26 km from Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum and features a lift. Shingu Castle Ruins Park is 37 km away and Fudarakusanji Temple is 47 km from the ryokan.

An Asian breakfast is available at the property and includes warm dishes and local specialities. The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. This hotel is run by the kindest couple, and I’m still thinking about how good dinner and breakfast were. Some of the best meals of my trip! You can also order lunch for the trail. The onsen was wonderful after a long day hiking. Room was on the 3rd floor and very quiet, it was compact and simple, very clean, with everything you might need, including yukatas for dinner and towels for the onsen. Shared toilets and sinks in the hall were never busy; there are two communal showers inside the onsen. I asked about laundry and they took mine and washed it for me within a few hours! The bus stop to Shingu or Hongu was a one-minute walk from the hotel. Yunomine Onsen was such a unique town, I feel lucky to have stayed here and enjoyed such great hospitality!

At the ryokan, every unit is equipped with a tatami and a shared bathroom. It was such an amazing experience. Thank you to the monk staff who were so kind and patient and guided us through meditation custom and practices. Our room included shojin ryori (buddhist vegetarian cuisine) breakfast and dinner which was very balanced and filling. I feel a sense of gratitude and peace coming back to Tokyo. I would like to go every year if I can.

Set in Koyasan and only 38 km from Kishi Station, Koyasan Shukubo Fugenin offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and bicycle parking. Matsushita Park is 45 km from the ryokan and Wanpaku Park is 47 km away.

The ryokan provides certain units that feature inner courtyard views, and the units are fitted with a shared bathroom and a tatami. The units are equipped with heating facilities. We stayed two nights in Koyasan at Fugen-in temple and it left a long-lasting impression of serenity and kindness. The temple has a long history and many works of art. Attending the morning prayer was a meditative experience. The monks were very friendly and explained about the Haiku temple in Fugen-in's garden. Breakfast and dinner were amazing, so well-balanced and lovingly prepared. The room was clean and had everything we needed, we felt well taken care of. The water of the onsen was very hot and relaxing. Fugen-in's location is perfect, very central and right around the corner of the tourist information. What also stays with us is the beautiful sound of the local cicadas.

Located in Tanabe, 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya offers accommodation with a public bath. With an open-air bath, the 2-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. The ryokan features a hot spring bath and a housekeeping service. A great small guest house. The hosts were very pleasant and accommodating, very good English skills. Thank you! Everything was clean, the futon beds actually were surprisingly comfortable. We very much enjoyed the private onsen! Since the guesthouse is not big we did not have to wait to use it even once. The location is very nice, it is near the river and everything is within walking distance (except for groceries shop but that is expected in such a remote area).

Hotel Kirinosato Takahara features outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, only a 2-minute walk from the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property, a terrace and rooms with a Japanese interior and Western beds. I seldom rate a 10 but Kirinosato Takahara deserves it hands down! No wonder it’s not easy to get a room here, because it always got booked out. There’s a lot of passion and heart put by the whole team led by Jian into making guests feel happy and comfortable - from the hospitality, attention to details, great food (muy delicioso!) and ambiance. The onsen is clean and of hotel standard. It’s not cheap to stay here but I got my money worth and more!
