Plenty to do. Alexander McCall Smith’s Scotland Street book locations were the highlight of our stay. Highly recommended is Valvona and Crolla deli and cafe. National Gallery excellent. Scottish Parliament worth a visit. Cote good for food and the Cumberland Bar good too. Wetherspoons good for budget eating and drinking. Walking ok for fit people. Maybe too hilly for some. Edinburgh seems to have a lot of tourist traps, but if you like that kind of thing, then it's the right place to be. Edinburgh Castle and viewing the Crown Jewels is always an interesting visit, although perhaps overcrowded. Harry Potter is milked, but fans get many treats and should opt for the walking Harry Potter Tour. The Royal Mile is fantastic with visitors spoilt for choice in terms of pubs and food. The buskers unfortunately seem to lack talent and should practice more. The adventure on the mile becomes tedious with too many outlets offering similar wares. The Edinburgh Dungeon is worth a visit, although the offering is based very much on the London Dungeon and pulled off with less aplomb. Calton Hill makes for excellent panoramic views and points of interest. We felt that the hop on - hop off busses was not worth the spend, as we found that most areas of interest could be reached on foot. The Camera Obscura attraction on the Royal Mile is a must visit and should be worked into the itinerary. Regrettably, we were not allowed to proceed with a pre-booked tour of The Reak Mary King's Close as the establishment cocked up our time slot. The National Museum of Scotland is worth a visit for history and science buffs, and admission is free. St Giles Cathedral is a must visit and the architecture is stunning. Its 900 odd year history is equally impressive. Franchised coffee shops offer the weary traveller great hot drinks and snacks.

We go to Edinbugh regularly from North Wales to visit the art galleries and walk around the city centre. It is a very beautiful place, very compact and easy to walk around. People are friendly and there are some great eating places. We never go near London any more as we much prefer to visit our Cletic cousins North of the border.

Absolutely beautiful with wonderful old historical buildings. As hotels may be in old buildings with a lot of charm make sure to check if there are elevators. Edinburgh Castle was so incredible the view the number of Guides and their knowledge. Everyone in the city was welcoming and patient. The highlight for me was St.Giles Cathedral. Even the teenage boys were overwhelmed by the size and beauty. It’s a must! There were street performers and folks promoting an Owl Rehab Center the owls were so huge and you could hold them. The good was standard and usually cafeteria style. Always found a pretty good Espresso. I missed Market Day and I missed Hollyrood which was closed for a Royal Visit
