The house was very well designed, had lots of storage space and was really clean. All bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms, which was brilliant. The welcome hamper was...welcome. Location was perfect, right in the town. The electric charging point next to the house was a bonus.

Surrounded by beautiful scenery but just a few minutes' walk from Hay-On-Wye's center, this charming inn has a traditional wooden-beamed bar.

The inn has character, comfort, hospitality, and amazing food. The staff is friendly, the rooms very comfortable, and did I mention the amazing food? We were a party of 7, with 2 kids, and even with appetizers, mains, and deserts, we only averaged £25 per person for AMAZING food. Highly recommended.

The property during my stay met my standard, got to see a nice view of farm fields with sheep’s and hearing birds singing. The room spacious but can’t complain. And at breakfast the host was very friendly and her friendly pet dog made my mornings during my breakfast.

This is a quirky hotel in a great location with friendly staff.
A lovely little town. Obviously you will most likely be going for the bookshops. There are also other interesting shops, and on one of the days we visited - Thursday - a market.
Lovely countryside around too

Hay is great , there is always something to do here. Some lovely antique shops and vintage bizarres. Great coffee shops and restaurants. The Castle has been restored and is a beautiful gift to behold. We love walking along the river to The Warren and having a dip in the cold water.
A little gem of a place.

Hay is a beautiful village with many historic buildings and interesting shops. There are many options for outdoor recreation in the area. One thing to note is that most shops close at 5 PM. My favorite meal was dinner at The Old Black Lion. Every meal I had in Hay was excellent. Please note if you are using the bus to get from the train station at Hereford to check the bus schedule yourself since Google Maps pulled from the wrong table. There is a lovely walking path along the River Wye with amazing views of the river.

A wonderful place to visit!
A wonderful place to visit! Quirky shops, vast array of book & antique shops and a lovely market. Coffee shops we’ve visited have all been excellent. My husband and I regularly visit for a night or two. We dine at the Blue Boar and occasionally the Indian restaurant- both superb!
Lovely walks, and a ambience of calmness & fresh air entices us back all seasons.
My daughter and I have also camped nearby- that’s was fabulous too!

pretentious!
Only one overpriced pub which did food I liked.. the food cost telephone numbers
A lot of visitors looked they had just come out of a 1960's folk festival
Er, since the advent of Amazon do we really need bookshops?
The location of the hotel us ideal for walking into the lovely town of Hay-on-Wye. The town itself is just lovely - quaint and unspoilt.
Staff at the hotel were friendly and very welcoming.
This was our third stay here and won't be our last!
The couple of negative comments below don't take away from our overall Impression of the hotel, which is very positive.
On this occasion our room (1) overlooked the beautiful garden and country backdrop, spoilt by the noise as mentioned below. We will request a different room next time.
Perfect in every way, tucked away in a peaceful spot with a lovely south facing outdoor space and stream at the bottom of the garden (separated by a fence). The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped with lovely touches such as cut flowers, welcome goodies and a very helpful visitor guide. An easy stroll into Hay with all its amenities. A great weekend with weather to match. We look forward to returning !
The room was very spacious and welcoming, everyone we met at the hotel were really warm and friendly. The breakfast included was delicious and served promptly in the morning. We couldn't have asked for anything better considering we were only there for a short stay but would happily recommend to family and friends. Especially with the bar on site, and the beautiful views in the garden. Very peaceful and serene.
Perfect for what myself and my sister were wanting; a place to relax after sightseeing and being on the road travelling for several days. Little touches like a hot water bottle I really enjoyed not because it was cold but soothing to an aching back. We’d been staying in a range of accommodation from five star hotels to little b&bs and the breakfast at the Smithy by far the best.
The location was absolutely fantastic - so easy to reach pretty much anywhere else in the town. Very handy to have the Spar next door. It was very quiet despite being on one of the main roads.
In terms of the place itself - it was so clean and well appointed. It had basically anything we could need, including very thoughtful extras like local milk and bread.
Great location in the centre of Hay-on-Wye but in a quiet spot off the road. Some lovely walks down by the river, very close. Excellent breakfast and good choice. John and Sally were excellent hosts. Two very friendly dogs. Single room had plenty of space and there was a fridge which was much appreciated. All very clean and warm.
The location is beautiful, with stunning views, the accommodation is superb and the hosts could not have been kinder or more accommodating. The breakfasts were outstanding and small luxuries (baskets of fruit, home made cakes) made our stay really special - all 7 days :-)
The house was very well designed, had lots of storage space and was really clean. All bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms, which was brilliant. The welcome hamper was...welcome. Location was perfect, right in the town. The electric charging point next to the house was a bonus.
Very friendly and well looked after. Lovely 16th century setting, excellent location, delicious breakfasts.Added bonus of the on site pool. Pleased to be greeted by a lovely Bearded Collie and to know it was a dog friendly hotel that we could bring our dog to next time.
Had a lovely 2 night stay. The B&B is in a fantastic location and the room was very spacious. Breakfast was fantastic and had every need catered to. Really lovely that there were plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices for breakfast. Will definitely be coming back!
Spacious tents, very comfortably fitted out but still felt like camping. Toilet and shower facilities good. Nice communal tent with generous breakfast and hospitable all day tea and coffee. Easy walking distance to cental Hay. Charming and attentive hosts
Spacious room (deluxe), very comfy bed. Clean room. Location near centre of town was brilliant. We didn't have the breakfast or dinner so can't comment on the food but the dining areas did look inviting. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
Room was modern, recently decorated and very spacious. Staff were very friendly at check in and at dinner/breakfast. Dinner was also really lovely. Location was perfect for wandering around Hay.
Location superb in centre of Hay.
Spacious, lovely old fashioned and comfortable apartment.
Has everything you could need.
Would definitely come back here!
