Alex , the owner, was an amazing host . Local recommendations, very kind . The place has amazing views to the sea , quite , silent and comfortable. We are currently staying in Karavostamo but fancied a change of scenery. I had holidayed in Greece for 21 of the 26 years together, but recently my partner died and I have found it difficult to settle this year. The Mesaktis Rooms were exactly what I needed. A beautiful tranquil setting, our terrace looked down on to a small lagoon. The owners gave me and my friend homemade lemonade and the most delicious homegrown figs, which we consumed whilst overlooking the lagoon, which was home to over 30 turtles! We were given bread with which to feed them. What a sight to feast your eyes on while we drank our delicious lemonade! The accommodation is rustic, it’s not luxurious, but it’s what we both loved about this place. There are tavernas beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need to make a simple meal. There are tavernas maybe 5 minutes walk away, a mini market next door, and over the road there is probably the best beach on Ikaria - Mesaktis beach. At the far end is a lagoon in which you can see even more turtles! The hosts, as you may have picked up on, were so generous and warm. I miss the place, the kittens and Sadi the dog already. This has been the standout experience so far of this 3 week Greek island hopping trip. I absolutely loved it, and it helped me along in my grief journey. To the owners: thank you for your hospitality, for letting me leave the car on your premises after we had checked out, and sorry for taking the room key!

Perfectly located a short step from the beach, restaurants and bars. Sea views on both sides and all of the adorable Greek cats that would come visit. The nicest little beach with crystal clear water, you can swim to two other beaches with beach bars etc and saw great things snorkelling too.

Everything was amazing!!!! The location and also the place ! The most popular places and beaches were really close by car or by foot if you like (I did it and it was 1 hour walking). The hostess was so friendly and always there whatever we need. You feel like home. See you next year ! :)

That was an absolutely beautiful experience. The hosts are very warm and generous people. They helped us a lot with recommendations about life , beaches, food etc.in the island. The establishment is in a pretty welcoming village in the mountain, but not far from a couple of gorgeous beaches, and it was proved to be a very good base for exploring the island. We also liked the fact that the rooms are pretty independent so you are not disturbed and you don't disturb either, while being very comfortable. Extra bonuses were a big balcony, a very comfortable bed and a beautiful garden!

    We spent two weeks at Zacharoula rooms and it was all delightful. Stella and her family gave us a very warm welcome. Our room had a balcony with a wonderful view of the coast below, there was a garden to enjoy and communal spaces. The kitchen was very well equipped too. Someone (Stella I imagine)hard thought about the details - a special bar of soap, homemade jam, decent coffee. It was all low key but very well run.
