I booked this place at short notice in between stays arranged by my travel agent, but would have made it our base for 3 days in Tangalle area, if I had known about it earlier. It is a beautifully furnished former private home, a true boutique hotel. Everything was of the best. There is a large pool, with a shallow area for young children. It is set in extensive gardens, growing mainly cinnamon, coconut and pepper; the garden makes a pleasant walk, with the opportunity to admire many peacocks. The lunch we were served on arrival, the dinner and breakfast were all outstanding, well prepared and presented, generous and very reasonably priced. Beds are comfortable with bedside tables and reading lights. There are a number of outdoor areas to sit. Prabath and his colleagues were very attentive to our comfort and he was able to tell us the history of the house. I had an excellent massage from a therapist who is on call; I understand that the hotel is building an Ayurvedic centre on the grounds, and there is already a separate cabana which has been used for yoga sessions. It would be an excellent place for either a romantic escape or a yoga/spa/ meditation retreat. Highly recommended and full marks to Prabath’s management.

We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.

A very well-kept facility, located in a quiet location, with access to the lagoon. We swam in a kayak belonging to the facility and had the opportunity to observe many species of birds, including eagles. Moreover, while sitting for breakfast, you can admire several species of colorful birds flying between the trees. Fantastic! Extremely spacious and clean room. Food also very good. Extremely nice and helpful gentleman. He arranged for us to pick up a tuk tuk at the hotel. We recommend this place!

It was incredible stay for us, especially experience on lagoon going throught lotus fields and watching sunset and bats was non-transferable experience. Also Mawella beach and little fisherman harbour had unforgettable poetics.And also it is impossible not to mension very comfortable beds in bungalows and very friendly and always helpful staff.Thank you, Suresh!

Such an amazing place. We were actually very sad to leave after 3 days. Would have loved to stay longer. Directly on the beach and all you hear are the waves. We ate quite often in the Restaurant and all meals were very tasty with good prices. The beaches are rather quite, which was perfect for some relaxed days. You can get free sunbeds if you buy a drink at the Restaurants which have sunbeds or you just take your towl to the beach. Would definately love to come again.

Everything especially the friendly stuff. Kamal, Lakmal, Miton and the chef Lasanta. They were extremely helpful and welcoming. We feel like we are at home. Secondly, the interior, the Villa building, design and furniture are outstanding. I like all details about it. Also, the view is amazing. Highly recommended for anyone. Perfect also for honeymooners.

This is a fantastic small beachfront resort with amazing staff, great food and an awesome pool. There are beach cabanas available along with the usual beach chairs and umbrellas so lots of choice for lounging by the pool. Breakfast was a la carte, with five different options to choose from and all came with a generous amount of food, toast, croissants, juice, tea and coffee. We ate most meals here and were never disappointed! For sunset drinks and seafood dinner, try the Endlessblue Resort next door! You can even participate with the local fisherman catching fish in their nets each day!
