Shiroyama Ryokan was one of the best parts of our tour around central Japan. The building is welcoming, cozy, clean and well kept, and was a pleasure to stay in and come back to after a day of adventuring. The owner is such a sweet woman and accommodated us even with last minute requests, and while her English is good enough for her to communicate everything you need to know, knowing at least a little Japanese will go a long way and will be very appreciated. Overall she (and the other staff) went above and beyond during our stay. We were in the basement room, which still had a lovely view over Ikoma and Nara. The meals were also a huge highlight of our stay. Both breakfast and dinner were so delicious and were even ready for when we came back from a long day of adventuring in Nara. There aren't many restaurants or shops open in the surrounding area, especially in the winter, but Hozanji Temple and the walk down the mountain into Ikoma were also beautiful highlights of our trip. I would stay at Shiroyama Ryokan again in a heartbeat.

Great place to enjoy kaiseki and onsens. We got the room with an in-room onsen too, which was great. Late at night we decided that we wanted to add a futon (instead of sleeping with the Western style beds) and they helped us with no problem.

New hotel directly near entrance to the metro station. Same metro line as EXPO. Near there is small shopping mall and Lawson store, where you can buy tickets to Universal studios. All necessary stuff in the room, kettle, and small but very powerful ridge. The matress was amazing - not soft, not firm - ideal. Healthy breakfast - miso soup, curry rice, chicken, vegetables, yogurt, different japanese food, fruits, coffee mashine, croissants. We didn't have time to visit onsen because of spending most of the time at EXPO and Universal Studios.

Conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from Nagata Subway Station, Richmond Hotel Higashi Osaka offers comfortable guestrooms, free Wi-Fi in some rooms and free-use PCs at the lobby.

Friendly staff, large rooms, convenient location, flexible check-in, AMAZING breakfast buffet. Absolutely worth the price!! The in-room AC was excellent, and the shower had endless hot water with great pressure. The included toiletries were also very convenient.

Kakimotoya is located near Mount Shigi, a 10-minute taxi ride from JR Oji Train Station.

The room was everything I needed and more. Unlike some Japanese hotels I've been to in which there's a shared shower, this room matched the online description exactly: A one bedroom with a shower attached, very much like a Western hotel layout. There was even a small kitchenette area inside the room by the door with a stovetop and sink. There was a laundry rack, balcony with a rail for drying clothes, TV, and small table, all inside the room. The bed was comfortable. Shampoo was in the shower for use. There was even a new plastic-wrapped toothbrush in there with toothpaste in case you forgot that. Towels were also in the bathroom, so keep yours at home and save trunk space. Room service came in every day. The heating unit kept me nice and warm, which was great because Nara is biting cold in January. The hotel is only a few yards from Amagatsuji Station, which can easily connect you to the Kintetsu-Nara Station via two train lines exchanging at Yamato-Saidaiji Station. (Ride one stop, change platforms, then ride two stops, bam! Kintetsu-Nara in 15-17 minutes.) The host was super friendly and accommodating. I knew I would be coming in late that night, so I emailed ahead and he was very kind to leave the key out on the desk for me. He offered to give me a tour around the local area and gave me a photo album (with Japanese and English captions) about onigawara on the temples and their history. He was extremely response to emails and even helped me arrange travel to get to the JR Nara Station when I left Sunday morning.
