The room is very different from what it shows on the website. It has no windows but a skylight. The ventilator is extremely loud. Poor sound isolation and you will hear machinery noise 24hr on and off non stop. Terrible place to stay!

Heavenly Heritage and Literary Legend
Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

We loved exploring the Kent area whilst based in Canterbury.
We loved exploring the Kent area whilst based in Canterbury. We did 3 x Day trips - to Whitstable, Margate and Ramsgate. Then the White Cliffs of Dover and on our final day did a day trip to Dover Castle.

Beautiful with loads of independent shops.
Beautiful with loads of independent shops. Really beautiful gems around the cathedral. Difficult to find decent parking in town. Public car parks not cheap and can’t vouch for their safety. Most city centre hotels don’t have their own car parks…which is a big problem.

I know Canterbury well as parents have lived in many locations surrounding the area including Reculver, Herne Bay, Seasalter, Whitstable. Not easy to get around from area to close area outside Canterbury using taxis. No taxis from various train stations to various surrounding areas. When travelling with friend in wheel chair it was a nightmare. Could not get any taxis. Luckily we were able to rely on relatively good bus services using disabled free bus passes.

The cathedral was beautiful !
The cathedral was beautiful ! The neighborhood has a lot of walkable streets wear tennis shoes though uneven pavements , very unsafe feeling environment where cycles park. There is limited parking there so you have to park blocks away and pay a premium.

We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to around the city; had we come by car we would have gone further afield and I am sure there were buses but this was deliberately a one night city break and we covered everything by walking.
Local independent shops were good, Corkk for English wines and good coffee shop opposite Burgate Coffee Shop with fantastic cakes. The Parrot and The Dolphin served good food and drinks.

Canterbury is a lovely old historical partly walled City,...
Canterbury is a lovely old historical partly walled City, it has a beautiful Cathedral and a castle well worth visiting. The high st is a mixture of modern and quaint old shops, the older buildings/architecture is lovely to see. Great variety of cafes/restaurants/pubs to visit . We visited the Olive Grove for dinner on the first night great food , very friendly staff, good atmosphere! Guided walks available throughout the day & evening . Two days was not enough to see & do all we wanted,
Will definitely be back again soon.
The hotel is very convenient for Canterbury town centre. It is located opposite the Marlowe Theatre. We were able to leave luggage after checking out. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. The rooms were well presented and the beds were comfortable. Wifi was good throughout. The en-suite bathrooms were very good. Breakfast was very good and nicely served in a light and pleasant space dining room (the former bar). I would stay again.
Location, just outside the City Gate -- easy walk into centre and the cathedral. The Dickens Room was clean, light, airy and spacious, with view of city wall tower. Not noisy, in spite of facing on a busy street. Staff was helpful with parking next door and a city map. Breakfast was attractive and generous, but lacking in protein. Everything was sweet. A boiled egg, or some cheese would benefit people with blood sugar concerns.
All the staff were great, really friendly & helpful.
The room was clean and tidy but we felt that it catered more for short stays as hanging space was limited. The bathroom, although clean, lacked shelf space. Parking at hotel was no problem as it was right next to a park and ride with easy access to Canterbury town centre. The restaurant was comfortable with a varied menu. The meals we had were well presented & delicious.
New staff nice, helpful and apologetic. Owner totally missing in action so was not there to carry out their responsibility and manage the hotel, which was extremely disappointing. Well done to the new staff for trying to do their best shame about the managers. Garden is nice with a fountain. Good location - quote close to the town centre but if you travel with someone with mobility issues it may be a bit far for them.
It was just as expected … a quaint, older, quiet pub and inn. We didn’t want to visit England and stay in a big franchised Hotel. Comfortable bed. The room included a couch (which would make into a bed). The bathroom was very clean and updated. And all of the staff were helpful and friendly. Gave us some great advise on visiting in downtown Canterbury. And dinner was convenient, just ran downstairs.
Location - excellent in Canterbury city centre.Parking available right outside hotel - there were still spaces available the night I stayed.
I inadvertently paid twice. The hotel contacted me promptly and refunded the over-payment.
Friendly staff.Room clean, quiet and comfortable.Good continental breakfast delivered to room due to coronavirus restrictions.
For the price you pay, the breakfast is good with plenty of options at the buffet to choose from. Hotel is brand new and so everything is in mint condition and the room was quite spacious and clean. Location is its best selling point, right in the centre of Canterbury and behind the Whitefriars Shopping Centre and the high street.
We absolutely loved the Castle House Hotel! The location is great, right in the heart of Canterbury, with a private parking space! The room was cosy and clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast was well served and very tasty. The staff was great, very kind :) We will definitely come back again :)
Pub staff was incredibly friendly and professional. The dinner menu was quite tasty and they were able to fit me in without a booking. Also the size of the tub in the room was delightful; I'm quite tall and I could actually fit into it which is rare in hotels.
loved the helpfulness of the staff, quick email return with questions, helpful with parking, allowed us to store luggage for a short while after check out, lovely breakfast with a fun history lesson. location and history of building can’t be beat.
The area the hotel is in is amazing. We loved that it opened into the closed off courtyard of the cathedral. It made it seem like we had the whole place to ourselves, after a certain hour. Also, the sparkling water station was above and beyond.
Hotel staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. It was easy to access our room, request anything that we needed. It was particularly helpful to leave the car and walk into Canterbury and avoid the hassle of parking in the city center.
Location great, hotel stylish and welcoming - room comfortable, clean and fully equipped- dining facilities and lounge/bar area nicely designed, warm & welcoming and staff in all areas very welcoming, smart, polite and professional
Lovely refurbished hotel. Ten minute walk into city centre so easily accessible to shops and restaurants. Staff very accommodating. Good reasonably priced food served in on site restaurant and comfortable bar area.
A manageable flat walk into the centre of Canterbury from the hotel. Nice king size room with views of the garden. Nice buffet style breakfast. The staff, on the whole, were helpful and friendly.
The hotel is located right in the centre of Canterbury and within walking distance to the cathedral and other places of interest and right in the middle of the best eating places.
Right in the centre of Canterbury, so most sights are within a few minutes walking distance. Room facilities were quite nice, apart from the bed. Friendly staff.
