Fabulous location, very comfortable room and spotlessly clean. The outside bar area was lovely for a drink and we liked the architecture and decor.

As a village, Birdlip has no other facilities; it isn’t a big place and it seems many villages in the Cotswolds don’t have so much as a corner shop. Birdlup is no exception. But that’s not what it’s about. The village is very conveniently placed for visiting many of the attractions in the Cotswolds; Gloucester is only a few minutes drive away, Cirencester is not far. There are numerous parks, beauty spots, and places to enjoy nature nearby ( driving distance). There are numerous National Trust sites within a 30 mile radius and transport links (Birdlip is just off the A417) are good. Warwickshire, Worcestershire, even the eastern borders of Wales aren’t too far away. Birdlip is a reasonably attractive village and there are some public footpaths leading out into the lovely Cotswolds countryside for those able and willing to do some walking. It is a hilly area though, so expect some exertion to be necessary.
At night, traffic in Birdlip seems to be pretty much non existent, and although the A417 is close by, traffic noise just drops off to the faintest of levels; we had our bedroom window wide open and barely heard it. For this reason alone, Birdlip is an excellent place to stay so that after a day of driving to various attractions, you get back to a peaceful evening and an undisturbed sleep.
It has one pub/hotel/restaurant, the Royal George Inn, which is friendly, relaxed, welcoming and comfortable.

Birdlip is a great place for walking.
Birdlip is a great place for walking. We did 2 long walks from the village, one which involved a lot of steep hills and the other through some beautiful meadows and valleys. The countryside is stunning and we only saw a couple of other people on our walks.

It was only about 10 minutes from M5. Small pretty village but not much else there. No good unless you come by car, plenty of free parking onsite of Royal George Hotel where we stayed. They do great, reasonably priced food.

We only stayed for four nights as we had trips planned in the wider area. It does however seem a good area for walkers with lots of walks nearby. Unfortunately we only did one due to having other commitments.
Food portions were good. The staff were helpful. The room was big. The pub/hotel is an interesting architectural feature and stands well in the village. However it is next to the main road cutting through Birdlip. Birdlip is very handy for touring around the lower Cotswolds and walking the Cotswolds Way. There were lots of walkers staying at the hotel. Large free car park at the side and back. The view from the top floor bedroom window was rather nice.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, and the staff were all very friendly, pleasant and helpful. The room was nice and had everything I needed, a comfy bed, decent bathroom and bath, television and tea and coffee facilities. The breakfast was also included and the variety was excellent. The pub/restaurant itself was very pleasant with lots of options and there was a lovely beer garden outside too.
The hotel itself has loads of character and gives you a warm and welcome reception, theres plenty of choice on the menu and you have the option of dining in the bar or in the restaurant at no extra cost. The location is also really good for "the cotswold way" as well as other well marked footpaths.
Beautiful accomodation with the choice of the bar or restaurant for dining. Lots of seating throughout the hotel. Staff were polite and friendly. The food was delicious. Clean and romantic setting/environment, perfect for a couple's retreat.
Room came equipped with a bath in the en-suite which was a lovely bonus to the shower. My partner and I enjoyed exploring the grounds of the hotel as well. Nice beer garden. Attractive architecture of the surroundings too.
Dinner and breakfast were equal to or perhaps better than the usual high standard that we expect from Greene King pubs and hotels. This hotel is an older, character building and provides a warm atmosphere.
Visited many times so know the location and the Hotel. Lots of options for walking routes right from the hotel. Cheltenham not too far. Breakfast was hearty and tasty. Service was welcoming and timely.
Great location surrounded by trees and gardens in the village. Comfortable rooms, limited evening menu but a really first class breakfast! The staff were pleasant in this nice and relaxing hotel.
The hotel was clean and tidy. The food on offer was excellent and good value. The breakfast was very good with lots of options. All of the staff were friendly, attentive and incredibly helpful.
Not much compared with other hotels we have stayed in. From arrival to be greeted in luke warm fashion by an obviously de-motivated staff member who was summoned to cover reception.
Birdlip is acute town and part of walking the Cotswold Way if you are doing that. This was a charming hotel. We had a nice little patio off our room which was lovely.
