The Highland Club, hotel in Fort Augustus

Boasting mountain views, The Highland Club provides accommodation with water sports facilities, a fitness centre and a garden, around 26 km from Urquhart Castle. The property has lake and garden...

It was an amazing experience. We never knew what it would be like to stay in the old Abbey but the combination of the old (history, beautiful architecture, stunning views of the lake and the surrounding landscapes) and the new (neat, modern facilities, access to the pool and sauna) was exceptional. We loved how big our apartment was. Our daughter had her own room and bathroom and we all had a separate living room with majestic high ceilings and a big kitchen. We also got a lovely hamper as a welcome gift, which was very handy when didn’t feel like braving the cold to go out to buy a snack.

Homestead House, Fort Augustus, hotel in Fort Augustus

Offering a garden and garden view, Homestead House, Fort Augustus is set in Fort Augustus, 49 km from Glen Nevis and 27 km from Urquhart Castle.

Location was perfect for Highland exploring, parking was secluded and safe for the 3 motorbikes we had with us and we didn't feel the need to security chain them while we were there. The house was very roomy and comfortable for 3 people with a great sized kitchen, roomy bedrooms and plenty of space to have some time to yourself

Lovely area, right on the end of Loch Ness with terrific views. The Canal Locks are great to watch in operation, with all types of boats going through. Good restaurants and nice pub along the canal. Good central place to visit other areas, Inverness, Mallaig and Fort William.

Situated at the end of Loch Ness with a steep set of locks which form the start of the Caledonian Canal, Fort Augustus is a must visit destination if you are in the area. There is a good sized car park and an excellent choice of places to eat. We had an excellent meal at the Chinese restaurant. Lots of opportunities for boat trips along the loch and some nice shops for souvenirs.

We stayed here only one night whilst doing the Great Glen Way although it seemed like a beautiful place and there seemed to be many other things to do in the area. Lots of options for dinner (compared with other towns along the way).

Fort Augustus is a great spot to attractions in the area and easy drive for location upto 2hours away, like Glencoe, Fort William, Glenfinnin Viaduct, Aviemore ski fields, Urquart Castle, Inverness, Skye. Cruising or walk along Loch Ness are brilliant. The town is gorgeous with many good eateries within walking distance or a short drive away. Locals are friendly, inviting and engaging. I would live there if I could!

Didn't see much of Fort Augustus really.

Didn't see much of Fort Augustus really. Walked around a bit in the evening when we arrived. Only there for 2 days and used as a base for trips around Loch Ness - Urquart Castle, Culloden Battlefield. Which were all great. Arrived on a Friday night after 8pm in early November. Only places still serving food were a very expensive Chinese restaurant in a hotel and a place called The Moorings which appeared to be a kebab shop that dabbled in everything else. Unfortunately, they should stick to one thing and really try to nail that. We ordered the worst eat out Pizzas we've ever eaten - worse than home brand supermarket frozen and they were very expensive - £15+ each. Even the local chip shop was closed, at 8.30pm on a Friday! OK, we didn't come for the late night fast food. Bring your own or eat a good lunch.

Much quieter than Inverness and a delightful pretty village with good pubs and recommend The Bothy. Take a short walk to the very bottom of Loch Ness. Also take a drive down the much quieter and superbly more scenic route down the east side of Loch Ness on B862/B852. Fascinating to see the canal locks in the village.

Lorien House is in a great location to explore Fort Augustus. Close to the locks on the canal and the view point for Loch Ness and all the places to see and eat. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and gave us some sound advice on our next leg of our journey. Thank you! The accommodation was cosy, attractive and spotlessly clean our room had a view of the mountains. Breakfast was freshly cooked, with several options and very tasty. Covid guide lines were adhered to during our stay. We felt welcomed into their home.

this was quite a strange but wonderful apartment, set in a converted boarding school and Abbey. apartment as well appointed with a substantial lounge kitchen area separate bathroom and comfortable bedroom. There was a beautiful relatively school swimming pool and spa area a window looking out over the highlands. The situation is right at the south-western end of Loch Ness. It is also right on the Caledonian canal and the sequence of locks which is the main feature of Fort Augustus

Location was pretty good, not super far from Inverness or Fort William whilst being 2 minutes walk from Loch Ness and the town of Fort Augustus. Decent breakfast options. Nice sized room and huge bathroom with good shower and great bath. Fridge in the room, very useful as well as desk and plenty of information about everything to do and historical points about different parts of the Highlands. Good atmosphere within the lobby itself, friendly and helpful staff.

We stayed in a family glamping pod (no 1), it was clean, comfortable and had a nice seating area outdoors if you had the weather. The location of the resort is ideal, just a short walk into Fort Augustus where you can find the cafes and restaurants etc. The Loch Ness cruise is also there to allow you to explore Loch Ness further. You can also find nice walks along the canal. Staff at the resort were friendly and welcoming. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Beautiful property, spacious enough for a good sized family. Excellent location, unique property, and fantastic amenities. Plenty to do even in the winter time. The indoor heated pool was a family favorite. Easy walk to get groceries and enjoy Fort Augustus, and it’s a great starting point for day trips around Loch Ness, down south to Glencoe, and further west to Isle of Skye. Loved the claw foot tub and heated towel holders!

Most things, the bed was comfy, and the place was spotlessly clean inside. It was well equipped for our 2 day stay with everything looking new and modern. The pint of milk and 2 tunnocks tea cakes were a lovely touch, thank you. The towels were lovely and thick and fluffy. All of the towns facilities are close at hand. We would happily stay here again if we were in the area.

Quite a treat to get such a very nice place to stay at this price point. The location is the best for the Caledonian Canal area. Off-road parking was a good place to put on a car without worrying. The room was quiet and comfortable. The very modern bathroom nice and refreshing. The host couple are warm, friendly, hard-working hosts.

The property has a neat and tidy breakfast room which has a good selection of food to eat. Also its location on the edge of Fort Augustus is just a short walk to the centre of town where the Caledonian canal enters Loch Ness and there you can find plenty of places to book for dinner. Also there is a large car park.

Great location across from Loch Ness right outside Fort Augustus. I was disappointed with the service at the hotel, with the exception of Saskia, who did her best to make sure we had what we needed even when the housekeeping staff didn’t provide enough towels/tooletries. In the new room the bed was ok.
