The Castle Inn is a lovely old pub, with bags of interior atmosphere, a beer garden, and a tidy crowd of locals. There was even a group of morris dancers (not specially laid on for us, but still). The food was good, with specified local ingredients, which we thoroughly approve of. The breakfast, particularly had the type of butcher's sausage that is all too rare in a B&B cooked breakfast. The shower was excellent, and the bed comfy.

Lovely pub in a quiet location, perfectly situated for a stop over en route to Cornwall. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was bigger than we expected, and very comfortable. We ate there and the food was good. We had a very good value self-service continental breakfast.

Lydford is a small village just off the A386 to the west of Dartmoor and south of Okehampton. Probably most famous for the Lydford gorge but the village itself has other attraction including Lydford Castle which is actually an old courthouse and prison and mounds from the Saxon town. There is also an ancient spring and numerous footpaths. It has a traditional village pub and there is a nearby farm shop. From the village it's possible to see and easily reach the moor with its Tors and ancient settlements, stone rows etc:

Lydford Gorge is a wonderful walk,(National Trust) challenging for some, in parts, with narrow slippery paths, hand rails provided where necessary. Not difficult, but care must be taken at all times when near the river.
The Castle Inn very good food and service.

Lydford and the surrounding areas have much to offer those who have never been before and those like myself who have either been before or worked in the area. Churchyards with interesting churchyards, monuments, Lydford Gorge. The space of Dartmoor for peaceful thoughts. Life is far too busy these days, lose yourself within this part of the country. You will return home feeling refreshed from visiting here...and have the need of a return.

The place was beautiful, and well worth going. The waterfall itself is huge and the walk around the trust is easy going and relaxing. Well worth going to the bird hide if you've got the time too :)

A epic quest through the gorge.
A epic quest through the gorge. Just enough adventure - well cared for paths, obvious routes, a map, but also challenging terrain, interesting nooks to explore and incredible scenery. Speak to the folks at the desk as they will give you tips. The devil's cauldron was shut due to off season renovation, so next time we go I'd like to see that - will definitely be back!
We had a lovely stay at the Dartmoor Inn . The room was lovely with a spacious en-suite , very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent , with a good choice , quality products and truly set you up for the day . We stayed 3 nights and the inn is well located to explore the surrounding area., Lydford Gorge just a short drive away as well as a further couple of other National Trust properties . The Inn’s restaurant opened from Wednesday for dinner and a nice selection on the menu , the dinner was delicious.
We paid a little extra for a slightly larger room and were not disappointed. The room was spacious with a four poster and typical of an old historic building but extremely comfortable never-the-less. Dinner was good too in the beamed dining room. The location was superb, right next to Lydford castle and within walking distance of the falls. We will definitely stay here again, to break journey while travelling to Cornwall.
This was a beautiful hotel. The decor throughout was just lovely and it felt welcoming. For breakfast there was a good choice of food available and it tasted wonderful. The service was brilliant and the young lady who served us was so polite and helpful. We had a meal at one of the local pubs - The Castle - and the food there was delicious and again very good service by all the staff we had dealings with.
Lovely cosy place with a really comfortable bed and hot shower. Location ideal for walking to Lydford Gorge and exploring Dartmoor generally. There was parking opposite the front but also a free car park just down the road opposite the pub which was excellent. Super gluten free options and good ales on offer! Really sad we had to leave!
We enjoyed the peaceful and beautiful setting of the Linhay and its proximity to walks on the moors and the Lydford Gorge. It is also well-placed for visits to may locations further afield. The accommodation is comfortable and feels like a home. The welcome treats were very much appreciated. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
Great location in a pretty village, surrounded by walks for all abilities. Perfect base for exploring the area, seaside, moorlands, woods and forests, granite way. Townend Barn is a home from home with lovely hosts just on the doorstep for help and advice. Perfect stay in Lydford.
The room was perfect for a weekend getaway, well appointed and very comfortable. The hotel has multiple views of the moors. The living room was gorgeously decorated and was perfect to sit and relax around the fireplace. Breakfast was delicious.
Lovely hotel with gorgeous garden. Staff very welcoming & friendly. Rooms very nice and comfortable but a little small but it is an old Inn so is to be expected. Would definitely stay again.
The lovely breakfast and the serene location. Room was very comfortable. Hosts were very accommodating and friendly. Lydford Gorge and the western tors of Dartmoor are very close.
Great location for Lydford and The Granite Way cycle path. Great host and a lovely breakfast. Big room, niice bathroom and a great view of the moor. Thanks Angela.
