The place was small but perfectly formed, ideal for breaking up our journey to/from Cornwall from Essex. We needed somewhere for an overnight stop midway which had an electric car charge point and was dog friendly and The Dog House fit the bill perfectly. A lovely little house in a beautiful village with great walks from the door and a few lovely pubs for food and a drink. The house itself was ideal; simply decorated so no concerns about our dog getting up to mischief, with an outdoor area for him to sniff and take care of business. Getting into the house and using the car charge point was a breeze with thorough instructions sent via email in the days leading up to our stay. Our dog is a lab so not small, and we brought his crate from home for him to sleep in, and though it was a tight fit with the crate up, the 3 of us were perfectly comfortable. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to/from Cornwall, it made the journey incredibly easy.
The historic Lamb dates back to the 12th century and offers a pub, dining room and individually styled bedrooms with satellite TV. Stonehenge is a 25-minute drive away.

Had everything we needed for a 3 night stay. Edited to add: we left something behind, and the owner very kindly helped us out by agreeing to drop it off at a relative's for us. This item had a lot of sentimental value and her help was very much appreciated.

The Walnut Tree was really lovely.
The Walnut Tree was really lovely. So pleased we were recommended it for our two night stay for a family wedding nearby. The room we stayed in had everything we required and was spotlessly clean, warm and had all the facilities we required, plenty of space to hang our clothes and drawer space. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower with complimentary soap and shampoo etc.The towels were fresh , fluffy and white. There was also a good hair dryer and a choice of teas and coffees, bottled water and nice biscuits on both days. The room was a good size and peaceful.

Lovely 16th century hotel.
Lovely 16th century hotel. Room and bathroom was cosy and clean. Good value accommodation. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. If we are in the area again we will definitely book there again.
We ate at the hotel a few evenings, The Butt and Sherry across the road twice - and joined in the weekly quiz evening -which is more of a locals pub and our last evening at The Walnut Tree to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary! All three were good.
If we travelled to the area again we would definitely avoid Bath!! We spent an hour tying to get through on a Sunday afternoon

The meal in the restaurant was superb.
The meal in the restaurant was superb. The staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Very comfy bed, slept like a log. The only negative. Would have liked the shower to be a bit hotter. Bitterly cold weather outside, needed to thaw out in a hot shower. Otherwise lovely. Breakfast great..

Stourhead (in the photo) outstanding. Pity you can't walk dogs around the lake until 4 00 pm - can't understand any reason for this.

Attractive small town on the A303, convenient stopping point to break up a long journey. Charming antique shops and wonderful florist/green grocer selling fresh, local produce. Lots of churches too and some interesting buildings.

It was cosy, ours to enjoy, come and go as we pleased, home from home, a great base to explore the area. The host provided some simple provisions such as bread, milk, butter, jam, biscuits etc. Above and beyond what was required but made arriving a pleasure. Bed was super comfy. WiFi, TV, DVD etc all good. If you are wanting a 5 star hotel look elsewhere. If you want a clean homely, comfortable, cosy place you immediately feel is home, in a great part of the country, book it now.
We stayed for two nights at The Butt of Sherry - a very quaint pub in Mere. The room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. A generous and tasty continental breakfast was included in the price. On the second night of our stay we ordered an evening meal in the bar which we really enjoyed.
Comfortable bed and cosy room, with view to square. The location was good for us and conveniently just off the A303 .
Great cooked breakfast to order, the Eggs benedict Royale was great.Best smoked Wiltshire back bacon ever all served with a smile.
Nice bar atmosphere with log fire and reasonably priced restaurant.
A large very clean and well equipped newly refurbished room with a sofa, and modern bathroom. A very good pub menu dinner and exceptional full English breakfast on one of two open air terraces. This inn has a quiet setting in the picturesque small stone built town Mere.
The room was brand new and very comfortable. It had everything you would expect. There is easy parking at the front of the hotel/pub. Despite any of my misgivings, the staff were lovely and very helpful. The pub garden is a nice place to sit.
The George Inn is an iconic part of the beautiful town of Mere. The new owners, Paul and Anna are doing a fantastic job of running this warm and hospitable county inn looking forward to coming back many times in the future
The town and hotel are very cute. The hotel has some interesting history. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. The breakfast was a full English breakfast and included with the room. The restaurant was also very good.
The staff were friendly, the food was good, with a varied choice on the menu. The room was very clean with a very comfortable bed, and although we were at the front of the building, the noise from the road was minimal.
Great location, exactly behind Mere town square. Ample parking available on the back side. Room was comfortable.Sumptuous breakfast. The Inhouse Pub and adjoining restaurant has a charm about it.
Excellent location, just minutes from Stourhead and Mere is an interesting old place in itself. We had a very friendly welcome from Pat and the annexe is comfortable, well-equipped and homely.
A comfortable stay in a quaint old 17th century hotel - comfy bed, good breakfast, friendly staff - room has been refurbed since I last stayed - tasteful modern/retro shades of grey style.
