Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.
Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.
Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.
Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.
Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.

Such a historic, rich, cultural place which was greatly enhanced for me by staying in the Colegate area with it's historic churches, squares, and leafy river walks . Else where there are two cathedrals and also public and private galleries where I saw some excellent exhibitions. There is an independent cinema with a very good art house movie programme constantly being updated and a beautiful bar. There are many wonderful cafes where you can chill with high quality beverages and patisseries. There is also the plantation Garden which I shall reserve for my next visit and the Castle Museum and Art Gallery with it's lovely gardens. The shopping is also very good.

Norwich is more than "fine" - it has character and personality. Little shops you won't find elsewhere including one of the best wine shops in the country (Harper Wells), glorious church buildings (many now in other uses), good pubs and restaurants, theatres large and small, two cathedrals and a castle, a river offering boating and riverside walks, an outdoor covered market... I could go on. Visit!

visited Norwich for a concert at the waterside. stayed near by so enjoyed the waterside area. great choice of restaurants and pubs. short walk in to the city centre which seemed very vibrant. Plenty to do and see in Norwich.
Although check-in wasn't until 2pm, the hotel was happy for me to leave my car in their car park when I arrived in Norwich at 10.30am for some appointments in the city, and offered me my room as soon as it had been cleaned. Check-out the following day was at a fairly generous 11.30am. The location is pretty convenient - 10 minutes walk from the city centre, but also just far enough away that it was easy to reach by car and to have sufficient free parking.
We stayed here a couple of years ago and decided to spend a couple of nights over New year with 2 of my sons and their families. Had a really lovely time the staff are great and the rooms are spotlessly clean. Breakfast is an additional £5 pp and is great value for a full English 😋. The hotel is situated right on the River and about 25 minute walk into Norwich City centre. Overall excellent value for money and my sons have booked to go back in July
Staff was really friendly, the room was clean and really nice! We managed to check in 2 hours earlier, and the day we were leaving the receptionist allowed us to keep our car in the car park until the time we were to leave. She recommended some nice places to go which was really helpful as it was our first time visiting Norwich. The hotel is located literally 5 minutes from the city centre which was very convenient!
Great location, it is walking distance to city centre without being on the busy high street.
The property is well equipped with everything you would need for your stay.
The host was quick to reply to queries, and even accommodated a last minute request.
A lovely place that I would happily stay in next time we are in Norwich.
Lovely period building in a central location, lovely part of Norwich city centre. Near to everything but quite peaceful. 24 hour parking at £10 in the car hotel park was useful for us too.
Our bedroom was spacious, light and well insulated. No noise disturbance at all and we slept very well.
Very nice staff: friendly and helpful.
Excellent location in the center of Norwich, close to restaurants and cafés. Walking distance from everything to do or see in the city. Easy to reach by car, large parking lot. Very stylish hotel, very confortable room, good bed. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. We enjoyed very much St. Giles House, will be back, for sure.
Wonderful ambiance of this charming hotel. Food in restaurant was delicious , the best we ate in England. The staff in the restaurant were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was good with several choices and they happily made lattes.
The front desk was very helpful in getting us taxis and giving directions.
The staff were all very helpful and the hotel was exceptionally clean.
It is a very calm and welcoming place in an excellent location to explore Norwich.
The bed was very comfortable and the room was a quirky shape, nicely decorated.
I loved White Stuff toiletries in the bathroom, little touch of luxury.
The room itself was one of the nicest (cheap) hotel rooms I've stayed in - thought had clearly been given to furnishings and it had everything we needed. If I want accomodation again in Norwich I would certainly make a return visit, which isn't something I often think about hotels at the cheaper end
Great little apartment, had everything you'd need for a short stay. Easy to access. Location was perfect for us, and a fab little coffee place at the end of the road was a bonus. Host was great at communicating. Would definitely stay again when/if we visit Norwich again.
Breakfast was very good and a good choice.
Bar area relaxing and good service.
Bus service into the City Centre, 2 minute walk to the bus stop for only £2. Bargain
Staff at the Hotel very helpful.
I will stay there again. Thanks 👍🏻
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I was able to store my bike within the hotel. Room was large and well equipped with good sized TV, kettle and even a coffee machine. Good en suite.
Very good full vegetarian breakfast.
Very comfortable and fantastic location - quiet, with shops nearby and a very short walk into the city centre. Appreciated the parking space. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed seeing Norwich as well.
Great location for Norwich town centre. Beautiful hotel with lovely boutique style rooms; full of character and style. Our room this time had its own little veranda. Food fantastic and staff very attentive.
The location is excellent, being so conveniently near the centre of Norwich. The apartment was spotless, and everything was new, including the cooker and cutlery. We found a great place to eat locally.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful
I loved the idea of a Bentley tour around the city but had no idea it was complimentary!
The breakfast was also very nice
Very welcoming. The hotel is well positioned for visiting Norfolk broads, Norwich and several NT properties. Good value accomodations and breakfast. We had a lovely time.
