A beautiful house, the room and the views were both superb, and we received the warmest of welcomes. The swimming pool and hot tub were really great 😁

Alan met us at the property with a warm welcome and showed us round. It is beautiful inside with everything you need and so clean! The breakfast is amazing and really sets you up for the day. Elaine is really lovely, couldn’t be more helpful and made it feel like a home from home. We will definitely be back.

Very friendly and warm welcome. Host was so helpful and made us feel comfortable as soon as we arrived. We stayed in the small double as it was literally a place to sleep for the evening whilst we were attending event in the nearby area. Room & ensuite were cosy and spotlessly clean. More than ample room for cothes if required - wardrobe/cupboard at each side of the bed and a large chest of drawers. All the facilities we needed for our stay were provided - great refreshment tray - tea, coffe, sugar, kettle & homemade shortbread. Chilled water & fresh milk were also offered on arrival and provided. The room also has a hairdryer, which was very useful. Really comfortable bed and good quality cotton bedding. Towels provided. Guest House itself is lovely and cosy and incredibly clean throughout. Breakfast was 5* - lots of choice and very easy to preorder. Quality ingredients, all local and/or homemade. Our full Scottish breakfast was cooked to perfection! Would absolutely stay again if we visited the area. Host was absolutely amazing!

There are nice scenic spots to visit near / around Stranraer, such as Castle Kennedy gardens,
Port Logan, Logan House estate whose owner donated part of their gardens to become today’s Stranraer Logan Botanic Garden. You can also visit
Castle St John in the town centre, as well as the museum. You can even come to join us for African drumming fun every fortnightly Thursday ! I myself travel 3.5 hours every fortnight on Thursday to practise African drum with this group whose drumming standard is very very high ! Always great fun ! That’s why I am willing to travel 7 hours door to door for my drumming fun every two weeks !
And, although I bring my own home-cooked food here, I also eat at some nice bistros and cafes.

A small, interesting working town on the west bank of Loch Ryan, visited right at the beginning of the season. Henry's Bay House Restaurant is excellent for food and the Ryan Centre has a swimming pool as well as a theatre/cinema with a good programme. There is a great view of the loch and Stranraer is ideally situated for exploring all of Dumfries and Galloway. The people are very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

The people.
The people. Roy came out of his store and greeted us and then walked us to two great places to eat. At the Caslte Hotel we were treated like royality. It was before supper time so they made fixed up our table and served us in style. The food and service was wonderful. David was our taxi driver for all our stay and was also a wonderful guide to the area.

Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries.
Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries. The tow, itself had a "sedate ' feel to it. Traffic was slow and polite. Lots of fish and chips shops. The central castle / tower house is the only place of interest and museum. Famous centre for curling with rink open in winter months.

Absolutely highly recommend this beautiful stylish hotel,...
Absolutely highly recommend this beautiful stylish hotel, very clean, great food with a warm welcome
Excellent location on the sea front and lots of parking spaces. Beautiful reception area and staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was very spacious with a small table and two chairs, large comfy bed and good facilities. Evening meal was lovely, very tasty and well presented with good choices; as was breakfast the next morning, absolutely perfect. The dining room is beautiful and set out nicely. The bars were both superb to have a drink and relax. Absolutely highly recommend this charming hotel, simply one of the best we have stayed in! We will definitely return!
The property was very nice, lean, and cozy. The location is very good if you come by car, otherwise is far to reach it from the bus routes.
However, we loved it. Very nice views around, quiet and relaxing place.
Good starting point if you want to explore the area around. There are beaches, botanical gardens, castles, and children's playgrounds nearby.
We loved it and will be back someday.
Thank you.
We liked everything. The accommodation was immaculate. The attention to detail and the thought that had gone into providing what guests would enjoy to have in their room (including biscuits & water every day, wine glasses & bottle opener, a fridge and bathrobes etc), was terrific. We have stayed in many hotels that have not come up anywhere near to the standards of Thornbank House.
Brendan and Nicola made us very welcome.
We were given the Loch Ryan view room, which was vacant for two of our nights stay. This really made our stay special,as the room has lovely views.
The breakfasts were tasty, I recommend trying the Mexican Eggs.
The area around the Galloway Peninsula was stunning. So quiet, near empty beaches, free carparks.
Certainly a place to return too.
Had a fantastic stay at The Craignelder Hotel. The room was large, as was the en suite and bed was huge and comfy. The food great, plentiful and very reasonably priced. As for the staff, they were brilliant, very helpful, especially were to visit in the area.
The area has stunning scenery, and plenty of places to visit. Well worth a visit.
The suite is more than big enough, with a panoramic, well sealed window, making it near silent. Complimentary whiskey was a welcome surprise, and the proprietor we met is a true gentleman. The Harbour Lights is 5 minutes from the ferry terminal, and staying there made our voyage a stress free experience.
Balyett is wonderfully located just outside Stranraer, off the road to Cairnryan. The room was extremely comfortable and I loved the bed; it was very soft (which I like) but may not be to everyone's taste. The bathroom was small but was modern and clean.
Lovely breakfast on one long table.
Stranraer feels unloved, arriving at the outside of the hotel my husband pulled out his phone to see if we could find another hotel near by however ignore the appearance outside and go in you wont be disappointed. Family room was spacious (2 adults, 1 child) as was ensuite bathroom.
Brilliant location if you have a car. Stranraer is a couple of miles away for food shopping, and south is some fabulous little towns like Portpatrick. The scenery was amazing, and the cottage is very near the Southern Uplands Way walking route.
Good position near town, lovely breakfast and comfy bar area and helpful bar, breakfast and reception staff.
It was an interesting place to stay architecturally and historically. I liked the fact I could buy paintings and cards there.
Lovely clean apartment with great views over the harbour. Free parking close by is a plus too. Everything is provided for the stay including a nice big smart tv, we’d surely come back here if returning to this part of Scotland
Excellent breakfast. Lovely owners. Great room.
Only tiny negative comment is that we were met on arrival by our lively host in 'near darkness' in the old bar so the atmosphere didn't feel very cheery after a long drive.
Beautiful place with stunning views and scenery. Perfect for a quiet getaway with great walks and plenty of lovely places to visit nearby. My wife and I and our dog thoroughly enjoyed our time away here.
Wilma was really welcoming and helped with parking right by the door. My room was at the back of the building, quiet and private. The hotel location was easy to find and close to main routes for ferry.
The lovely welcome from Sandy. He made us very welcome. We went to the cenotaph to pay our respects and the pipes and drums where lovely. Stranraer is a lovely place.
Hotel had a Curling rink, we arrived on a competition weekend and was able to sit in the bar and watch.......great!
On the whole the staff were friendly.
