Wood House, hotel in Cockermouth

Set in Cockermouth and only 2.2 km from Buttermere, Wood House offers accommodation with lake views, free WiFi and free private parking.

The house keeper who was there during my stay was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I also briefly met the owner who was also very nice. The view here is absolutely incredible and nature is on the doorstep I was looking for some peace and to be immersed in nature for my stay in Buttermere and staying here gave me that. There is also a private entrance to the lake which is nice. It’s a ten minute walk to the village from here. They include a hearty breakfast if you want it. The room had everything I needed. Buttermere itself is so peaceful and beautiful and though a small place there is so much to explore I feel I only scratched the surface on this stay. There’s a lot to explore I walked a lot and swam! I recommend and would return for some peace if I need it.

Old Posting House, hotel in Cockermouth

A 400-year-old coaching inn, just 3.6 miles from Cockermouth, the Old Posting House offers traditional bed and breakfast accommodation, views of the Fells, free Wi-Fi and free on-site parking.

The hosts, Nicola and Terry, were fantastic, very welcoming, friendly and attentive. The property was well kept and organised, with a dog friendly dining area. The room was very clean and comfortable, although I did bump my head once or twice on the slanted beams 🤪 😂. The food was excellent, particularly the steak and ale pie 😋. Rolo really enjoyed his first holiday and the pampering he received 🐶.

I liked the area as there are some lovely little villages within a 20 mile radius. It was nice to see all around without having to travel far. There is lots to see and do, whatever your heart desires in almost on your doorstep. We had our dinner out in Anna's restaurant and OMG the batter is so crispy and tasty, the chips were crispy on the outside and so soft in the middle. It was such good value and sits right on the sea front.

Cockermouth is a pretty town with many buildings of interest. Wordsworth's birthplace is there, but it is closed in winter. The rivers Cocker and Derwent flow through the town with banks of daffodils in spring. Plenty of small shops, restaurants and traditional pubs as well as two supermarkets.

We were here to visit a relative and have been several times before so know the area pretty well. Plenty of places to eat or Get a drink, (alcoholic or otherwise). Supermarkets handily placed and lots of independent shops with a side range of goods.

Cockermouth has potential but is in need of more eateries, we stayed 3 nights and struggled to find anywhere nice for meals. The Bush is a lovely pub with good food but that's all we had to choose in the area.

Loved the happy staff who we met whilst at this hotel. Breakfast was really good and loved the complimentary snack boxes provided. We weren’t able to eat at Blocks as it wasn’t open during our stay so unable to rate the restaurant. One night we were unable to get a table in a restaurant in cockermouth so we took takeaway back to hotel to eat in our room but a member of staff kindly set up a table for us and we were able to eat our Chinese with a glass of wine in the snug. So very thoughtful - thank you so much.

The hotel was soo beautiful, it’s very spacious, clean and you just feel so comfortable staying here. It’s right at the centre of cockermouth so everything is local. The cleaner came in and ensured your room was rubbish free and your bed was made for you coming back. You are told that there may be some noise from the bar down stairs but I was staying right above from it and didn’t hear a noise! definitely my favourite place I’ve stayed! we’ll definitely be coming back! Thank you’s!!

The location was perfect. Have stayed in any hotels and accommodation in the area this is by far the best. Lot of the others the provided pictures flattered them with these the opposite they do not do them justice. So much space in the accommodation and the facilities were first rate. We opted the optional breakfast and glad we did the produce used were first rate. When next in the area will be my first choice (hopefully reviews like mine will not men it is fully booked)

Apartment was comfortable well equipped and tastefully restored. The owners very friendly and obliging allowing us to store our bikes at their locked garage. Accompanies by my wife, brother and his wife enjoyed cycling the first parts of the C2C and found Cockermouth and Silloth enchanting places to visit away from the hustle of the main Lake District tourist centres. The nearby lakes wildlife centre near Bassenthwaite is well worth a visit.

The apartment was based in an excellent location in Cockermouth as I was here for a wedding weekend. Only a few minutes walk to the high street which had some lovely bars and restaurants. The apartment was really good value for money and parking which was free of charge. The host kept us updated throughout so we knew how to enter the facility and get WiFi access. I would stay at the property again on my next trip to the Lake District.

We loved the tranquil, beautiful setting of this hotel. it had amazing views and was in a good location for us as we were able to walk along the River to Cockermouth. The food was fantastic, all homemade and cooked fresh, great sized portions for people with large appetites, you don’t leave hungry. The staff were helpful when we needed information. We would definitely stay again if we were to go back to the area

The hotel is located above and a bit outside of Cockermouth. However, this can also be easily reached on foot from the hotel. The location is fantastic. Very quiet area; embedded in fields and trees. The hotel has a wonderful outdoor area with a gorgious view. The room was clean and tidy. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
