Location is excellent, and facilities are clean. Staff isn't much, other than the cleaning crew as reception has been moved to a sister location, thus there is no reception staff on site. They do provide a number if needed to be reached but don't expect a very social area/way to ask many questions. Did not get to visit the other location but heard it is nice. The rooms are small but nice, just as expected. Ear plugs are provided for a quiet night's rest. Decent sized lockers (with digital keypad) can easily fit a carry on or backpack. There are USB ports in each capsule and a light. Overall, really enjoyable experience. I just didn't enjoy my mattress as it was indented in the middle and not very comfortable. Comfortable showers were also clean and never fully occupied.

A really friendly welcome, quiet room, bed very comfortable. Great location and felt safe staying there.
The best hostel
Comfortable reclining beds and good hot showers. Warm room - and was a cold week. Good sound proofing so had no noise from adjoining rooms. Plenty of storage space - hairdryer and ironing board and tv. Great location for centre of Edinburgh- all in walking distance (if you are active - Edinburgh is on a hill!)
Staff were very friendly and always available to help. There were always people cleaning and checking the facilities. Breakfast was very cheap and accessible. Well located, was very close to Edinburgh Castle. There was a sainsburys shop 10 or less minutes walking from the hostel.
Great location, huge comfy bed, decent bathroom with bath and shower, fridge, safe, optional breakfast
Clean rooms, good breakfast, welcoming staff, great location and budget friendly.
A budget backpackers on the edge of the city, it meets all expectations. The building is old and seen many travellers, but I wasn't expecting much more from the backpackers. The kitchen was spacious and had all that was needed. Bathrooms were as clean as would be expected for communal bathrooms. Area was safe and about a 20-30 minute walk from the Edinburgh sites.
Nothing, it was a cheap backpacker hostel rinsing us a family £330 and not even making two bunks beds up- I had to go back down at 11.45pm after arriving with my wife and kids. I liked nothing it was rubbish l, Hugely expensive, Noisy and not nfelt thoroughly Ripped off.
I’ve solo traveled a lot and can safely say this is the cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. It was my 8th visit to Edinburgh and I always choose Haystack. In my recent trip I noticed there were a lot of changes, this isn’t a party hostel and people pretty much turn in by 11 pm. Also great location on princess street.
I stayed at this hostel for about two weeks, whilst I was getting a rental situation sorted for accommodation elsewhere in Edinburgh. The staff were fantastic and really went the extra mile to support me. I felt able to come and go whilst I was working at my job, and the access to the shared kitchen space really made things easier for cooking my own food on a limited budget! Would thoroughly recommend that backpackers stay here, good value and easy connection to Edinburgh Waverly Station :)
