We had dinner in the restaurant and it was exceptional. Every part of the meal was beautiful. Breakfast did not quite do it for me as I found everything over cooked, the bacon was dry and the sausage was over cooked my poached egg was not runny so not the best breakfast for me but my husband ate all of his.

The village the castle is in is beautiful everyone is so kind. We went to the pub next door the park horse inn and it was brilliant metvthe owners and were brilliant. The castle itself is beautiful the grounds are lovely but needs abit of an update/clean the umbrella that was up, i put it down due to the winds picking up and its just dirty, hot tub was abit dirty like white scum around the edge, the actually inside was lovely and clean.

A beautful and recently modernised old inn, run by an efficient and friendly team, and right opposite the rare and lovely Escomb Saxon church. The best steak-and-ale pie I can remember eating.

Really friendly welcome on arrival and in fact all staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. I was able to use the beautiful on site spa facilities which were excellent including a massage which was much needed after a 6 hour drive. Dinner and breakfast were both well served and delicious and as a female solo traveler I felt very safe and comfortable at all times. I would highly recommend the hotel and look forward to staying again in the not too distant future

The room was lovely although the bathroom was a bit awkward, with a tiny area around the basin. We had dinner there one night and the service was very slow , over an hour for pasta, although most people seemed to have already eaten when we ordered. Breakfast was good, freshly cooked and generous portions. Staff very friendly. A good location for visiting Bishop Auckland, and the little Saxon church is well worth a visit
