In the heart of Old Portsmouth, the Duke of Buckingham is just a 10-minute walk from Gunwharf Quays and the historic waterfront.

The bright and airy bedrooms each have free WiFi, a TV and tea/coffee facilities. Most rooms have a private bathroom. Ironing supplies and hairdryer are available upon request, from reception. Free WiFi is also available in the reception area.

The location is excellent - about 10 mins to the city centre and to the waterfront. The room feels homely and is spotlessly clean. Staff members are friendly and helpful.

All rooms in the inn are equipped with a TV. Rooms come complete with a private bathroom fitted with a shower and a hairdryer, while some rooms at The Wellington Restaurant and Bar also feature a seating area. At the accommodation the rooms include bed linen and towels.

The Wellington is a historic, traditional pub/inn with a few rooms upstairs. Being an older construction, the owners did a great job in making the rooms comfortable and unique. My room had a small, modern and efficient shower with a small sink as well. My toilet was down the hall and private. Downstairs in the pub, the staff was incredibly friendly and it had the feeling of being welcomed into the family. I was thinking of exploring the surrounding neighborhood, but Tom at the bar was so cheerful and easy going, i stayed and had the Lamb Shank dinner. In all honesty, i have been in the UK for over a month now and i have sadly discovered to lower my expectations with the traditional British menus. But the Lamb Shank suprised me as a dish i can rave about when i get back home to the USA. Additionally, being an overnight guest, everything was 15% discount for food and drinks!! If you are looking for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that has some of the Old World charm, then Tom and the rest of the crew will trwat you just right!!!! The location can’t be beat for sitting right in the middle of the historic district.

Looking for an inn?

Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening, which distinguishes them from country or guest houses.

The pub atmosphere was fantastic Great dinner and breakfast You could not hear the noisy pub at all from your room. Very very quite Good location and free parking is a huge plus. Little bit of distance from main town but that was no big deal

This is a place where we have stayed before! My mother is 92 years old and needs various requirements! The hotel went out of their way to meet these needs. The Service was excellent! We had a lovely comfortable room with all the facilities we required. The Sea View was great, Mum was very happy sitting and enjoying the view of the ships going in and out from the Isle of Wight, Brittany etc. We could see the top of the Spinnaker Tower, which was lit up at night.

Location was great as we were going to the Historic Dock Yard. Breakfast was average. Cooked to order eggs which was good. Yogurts good, fresh fruit available. DIY toast. Enjoyed a Japanese dinner one night. Most enjoyable, and cooked to order and served beautifully. Excellent service from the staff in reception and at the bar. Enjoyed reading the plaques and history of the hotel. Asked for a quiet room and we experience no noise,, so grateful for that.

The location was great. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The staff were brilliant and it's a shame that the Innkeepers group have provided them with a substandard refit.
